Are the individual components of the website administrated in a file system or in a database? If database, is it a system-owned database or can also other database systems be used?
By default a MySQL database is used. It is no problem, though, to connenct other databases (i.e. Oracle)

Is there an integrated media database for pictures, among others?
ContentServ has an exellent media-database for the administration of all kinds of media. There you can deposit metainformation, just as well as information about access rights. It is possible, based on your browser to edit your pictures and save them as a new version. Also included is a professional Versionmanagement and a fileserver.

Which attributes (for example, version, authorisation, publication and expiry date, META information) can be assigned to individual components or sites?
You can attribute to your sites such things as version, language version, date of publishing, date of archiving, editor (creator and last editor), date of creation, date of editing, and other meta-information.

To which extent are templates used?
ContentServ is completely based on templates.

Is there an integrated search function for the website?
Yes, full text search

Is there the possibility to automatically generate sitemaps and index sites?
Yes, via templates: Sitemap-template, folderpreview-template, ...

Is there an automatic link verification with a corresponding correction?
An internal linkconsistence is given through the linking of StoryIDs. For the validation of external links, there is a linkchecker.

Is it possible to design a generally valid navigation, which is adapted to the context?
Yes

Is there an integrated version backup?
Yes, via complete backup
Administration of versions for single websites is possible in ContentServ 3.1 or higher

Can a version backup be implemented through additional software?
Yes.

Can earlier versions of the website or individual components be reestablished and if yes, to which extent?
Yes. Possible with version 3.1 (09 / 2003) or higher.

Is there an integrated template editor?
Yes. There is a professional graphik template editor which allows the construction of templates similar to the design of screens in MS Powerpoint.

Can external editors be integrated? If yes which?
Yes, through WebServices.
Additionally it is possible to create the content with any HTML-editors and insert it as HTML-Sourcecode. (i.e. via MS Frontpage; Macromedia Dreamweaver)

Is there an object-oriented authoring?
Yes, the databasescheme is modelled entirely object-orientated and can be extended freely.

Can multilingual contents be administrated?
Yes. A multilingual user-interface can be administrated just as well as multilingual content

Are multilingual clients available?
Yes.
The language can be set according to the editor.
ContentServ is by default delivered with a german and english user interface. The interface is also adjustable to further languages though. Also non-european fonts are supported.

With which techniques can an editor transfer contents to the system?
Input in the included editor, copy & paste out of Office-applications, external editors, import from InDesign or Word...

Which possibilities are there for editors to work on contents?
The contents can be processed directly on the webpage. Either via templates, forms, or in a WYSIWYG-view. Further the bi-directional interface to Adobe's InDesign may be used.
