 Are the individual components of the website administrated in a file system or in a database? If database, is it a system-owned database or can also other database systems be used? All objects within Tridion R5 are stored in native XML in the database. The delivery supports both database delivery and file system delivery. Is there an integrated media database for pictures, among others? Tridion can store and manage all types of multimedia document. It easy to search the multimedia repository using the integrated search index. Image manipulation like cropping and scaling can be done directly in the system. Which attributes (for example, version, authorisation, publication and expiry date, META information) can be assigned to individual components or sites? Tridion R5 supports the assignment and maintenance of any metadata like version, expiry date etc. Metadata is stored in native XML format and can become part of the content. In addition, Tridion R5 supports a thorough version management including version compare, rollback and critical impact analysis. To which extent are templates used? Tridion includes two types of layout templates, component and page templates. Once defined, they can be re-used as many times as required to assemble different websites. Is there an integrated search function for the website? Tridion have integrated with many of the leading Search Engines like Verity, Autonomy, FAST, Lucene, UltraSeek, Google, Qgo and Index Server. Is there the possibility to automatically generate sitemaps and index sites? Yes. Is there an automatic link verification with a corresponding correction? Tridion Linking dynamically resolves the relations that are created in Content Manager into hyperlinks that can be used in intelligent navigation schemes for content delivery.
Tridion Dynamic Linking translates the links between content items (made by authors in the Content Manager) into hyperlinks that can be interpreted by a Web server. By translating these links at request time, Tridion’s Dynamic Linking can ensure that the target of the link is still available. If it is not available (for example, because the content being liked to was unpublished) it will not render a hyperlink but just static text, so visitors will never get a “Page not found” error. Similarly, links to images or downloadable files that are broken will not show up as red crosses. Can you define dynamic categories on websites, in which further relevant links are indicated? Yes. Is it possible to design a generally valid navigation, which is adapted to the context? Yes. Is there an integrated version backup? Tridion offer unlimited versioning and rollback for all Building Blocks: content, templates, documents, style sheets, etc. After saving, the content gets a version 1.0 and a status. The version compare function allows a user to compare 2 different versions. Can a version backup be implemented through additional software? yes Can earlier versions of the website or individual components be reestablished and if yes, to which extent? Archive Manager automates Web site archiving processes. You can retrieve an archived Web page or entire site for a specific date, time and visitor profile and view these pages with the original content and layout. Archive Manager enables your organization to comply with regulatory requirements and record all versions of Web site pages Is there an integrated template editor? Yes. The open WebDAV interface also leaves the possibility to edit templates with any WebDAV enabled editor directly in the system. Can external editors be integrated? If yes which? Common development tools like Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, JBuilder, HomeSite, DreamWeaver, FrontPage and XML Spy can be used for Tridion template development. The integration between some of these tools gives the editor access to features like syntax highlighting, code auto completion and seamless preview of the rendered content. Can multilingual contents be administrated? Yes, the browser based client is shipped in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Arabic and Dutch. The language can be changed at any point during a session.
