Are the individual components of the website administrated in a file system or in a database? If database, is it a system-owned database or can also other database systems be used? The components that make up the website (images, html files etc...) are stored in a database.
Thus MS SQL Server 7 or higher is the only DB system that can be used. Is there an integrated media database for pictures, among others? All media is stored in the database, including pictures, mpegs etc... Which attributes (for example, version, authorisation, publication and expiry date, META information) can be assigned to individual components or sites? Each document (page) in the system can have multiple language versions with each version separately authorised.
The date at which the content becomes available can be set explictly (i.e when it becomes available, when it expires, when it comes up for review) or default values can be specified.
Helpful information such as tooltips can be displayed whilst content is input to help the author. To which extent are templates used? All documents (pages) in the system are template based. This may be a HTML template (using special tags to insert content) or a XML-based template that is to be transformed. Is there an integrated search function for the website? There is both a simple and advanced search facility.
A custom search/results page can be defined by the website author. All the content including files that may be uploaded (i.e. MS Word, PDF) are also searchable via full-text indexing. Is there the possibility to automatically generate sitemaps and index sites? Yes. inQuire2 uses the concept of categorys and documents. Category pages are the "containers", i.e. you may have a "News" category. Documents get categorised and with the aid of the categories template can display titles, summaries or custom sections of the document (pages) categorised within.
With the use of special inQuire2 tags in the template a sitemap can be displayed as well as trails. Is there an automatic link verification with a corresponding correction? Yes, but only where the links are generated by the system. If as part of a page an author types in a URL to an external site then this is not verified. Can you define dynamic categories on websites, in which further relevant links are indicated? No Is it possible to design a generally valid navigation, which is adapted to the context? Yes. Is there an integrated version backup? No. Can a version backup be implemented through additional software? No. Can earlier versions of the website or individual components be reestablished and if yes, to which extent? Only in so far as you can restore the SQL Server database from a previous days back, hence restoring all pages/content to the state they were in on that day.
Via the check in/check out system on a per page (and also per language version) you can make changes to a copy and then either make those changes permanent (check in) or undo the changes. Therefore when editing a page there are 2 versions of it the original that can be seen by everyone with the appropriate authorisation and the copy which only the user editing it can see. Is there an integrated template editor? No. Because inQuire2 uses a thin-client (web browser) and has no big downloads for authors all templates must be created with another editor such as DreamWeaver, Frontpage or EditPlus Can external editors be integrated? If yes which? No Is there an object-oriented authoring? No. Can multilingual contents be administrated? Yes. Each installation of inQuire2 can be configured for multiple language.
Each page (document/category) as well as all administrable objects (i.e. templates, collections, queues) can be created in any language that the system has been configured for and then at any time translated into one of the other configured languages. Are multilingual clients available? The client is the users web browser, therefore by default they are multilingual. With which techniques can an editor transfer contents to the system? Only via their web browser. Which possibilities are there for editors to work on contents? When an editor works on new or existing content they can at any time save their additions/changes. Then comeback to it at a later time to finish it.
Until the editor "checks in" the new content or changes to existing content are not visible to anybody but them.
For each template a number of "fields" can be specified. Depending on the type of field (i.e. image, URL, sentence, paragraph, file etc...) then the in built MS Internet Explorer DHTML editor can be used.
