Are the individual components of the website administrated in a file system or in a database? If database, is it a system-owned database or can also other database systems be used? The content is stored in databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS-SQL Sever). Concurrent usage of differents databases/ servers is possible. Converting between databases (structure+content) is possible (e.g for a later change). Binary data, such as pictures is stored on the filesystem whereas the associated references in the databse are generated automatically. Is there an integrated media database for pictures, among others? Yes, additionally is easy to create mediadatabases with Powerslave individually. A simple template for such a mediadatabase is included in the package. Automatic image conversion (for generating thumbnails) is integrated as well as access via WebDAV. Which attributes (for example, version, authorisation, publication and expiry date, META information) can be assigned to individual components or sites? Meta information user defined. The publication period can be set on editing content. Userrights, like red/write can be defined for categories, documents, languages and even documentelements. To which extent are templates used? Powerlsave differentiate between layout templates and application templates:
Layouts:
- the most requested "templates": layout templates - mostly for HTML pages (and PDF, WML, XML)
- the layouts may be created/ edited with every common editor (e.g. Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Homesite). No design restrictions.
- Through ther integrated layout converter the (HTML)-pages will be converted to optimized Powerslave layouts.
- Layout types: normal layout, editing layout, preview layout, index layout, objectlibraries.
- Layouts can be arbitrarily nested (container). This way, the site ci can be detached from the news layout.
Application templates in Powerslave:
XML-Data which stores the complete database structure including associated layout from one or more categories:
- Table attributes
- Relations between tables/ categories
- Layouts for the categories
- Misc. category attributes
These application templates can be created or be installed with a few mouse clicks. This way a complete dynamic website can be transferred to another powerslave system or database. Is there an integrated search function for the website? Yes, an integrated searchenginge which can be installed as often as needed exists. With the integration of the open source searchengine Xapian a high-end search with a probabilistic relevance sorting, stemming, top words extraction is at hand. The integration of the amenotec semantic searchengine allows many more search functions, i.e. generating associations from search requests. Is there the possibility to automatically generate sitemaps and index sites? Layouts, sorting etc. is freely definable. Simple template commands for creating sitemaps exist. Is there an automatic link verification with a corresponding correction? Link consistency is ensured through bidirectional linkmanagement. This applies to automatically generated, dynamic and static links within Powerslave. Flawed static links can be correted manually. Can you define dynamic categories on websites, in which further relevant links are indicated? Yes, these links can be generated automatically. Is it possible to design a generally valid navigation, which is adapted to the context? yes, navigation layouts are freely definable Is there an integrated version backup? Yes, of single content objects not complete website. This should be done through back-ups. Can earlier versions of the website or individual components be reestablished and if yes, to which extent? Content can be re-establishd (applies to content that has not been explicitly deleted). Layouts can be re-established from the integrated layout database, in which they are stored with their history. Complete websites can be re-established through back-ups. Is there an integrated template editor? No, layouts are created using common editors like Homesite or Dreamweaver. These are then converted with the layout converter. Additionally, standard input/ output layouts are generated. Can external editors be integrated? If yes which? All HTML/XML/Text editors, e.g. Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Homesite. Is there an object-oriented authoring? Yes Can multilingual contents be administrated? Yes. multilingualism is realised with a langauge manager which offers the following advantages:
- Administration of countries and languages and rules for displaying content
- Switching languages on article level
- Ideal support for decentralised translation workflow (Central is adding new content, distributed to relevant countries and translated and/ or modiefied there) Are multilingual clients available? Yes. The user interface can be designed language dependent with skins and templates. Additionally, the administration interface is completely multilingual. Several translation databases exist, which can be customised to the customers needs (currently german and english). With which techniques can an editor transfer contents to the system? - HTTP post method (SSL possible)
- WYSWYG DOM editor in browser (even Mozilla)
- formbased through browser - text and upload (e.g. images)
- Word/ Excel import
- Document conversionthrough browser- external system - with plugin-interfaces in Powerslave. Connection to an existing system or creation of articles via email.
- Import/ export via XML (i.e. NewsML)
- WebDAV Which possibilities are there for editors to work on contents? - WYSWYG DOM editor
- formbased editingin browser - text and upload (e.g. images)
- Word/ Excel import
