Are the individual components of the website administrated in a file system or in a database? If database, is it a system-owned database or can also other database systems be used?
All contents-specific information, such as content, user rights, workflow information, schedule etc. are stored in a database. The underlying system is irrelevant here.

Templates, files (diagrams, download files) and applications are stored in the file system.

Is there an integrated media database for pictures, among others?
Content objects such as news, press releases and applications as well as raw content (images, download files) and templates are administered browser based via libraries with arbitrarily deep categorization.

As the data model is object-oriented (though mapped to relational database tables), it is possible to use contents in different places of the site and to exchange them via XML with other systems.

Which attributes (for example, version, authorisation, publication and expiry date, META information) can be assigned to individual components or sites?
Extensive settings and changes can be made via the meta information window for each page and for individual objects of a page.

In that way it is possible to
- edit meta tags
- temporally limit the frequency of publication
- replace the content -, primary navigation -, secondary navigation -, header and footer templates afterwards
- flexibly rearrange the objects of a page.

The meta information is also considered in the integrated search machine. Certain information (last change, last editor) appear automatically within the title area of the created pages.

Using the user administration it is possible to establish users and user groups as well as access rights of the user groups to administration tools. Between users and/or user groupsworkflows can be defined: publish rights, control and revision rights and automatic dispatch of messages via email.

For user groups and users the access can be exactly adjusted to certain pages and page trees. It is differentiated thereby between the following rights:
- create new
- read
- change
- delete
- publish
- full access

To which extent are templates used?
Basically the strict principle "separation of content and design" applies. It is possible to flexibly assign different template types to each page and exchange them at any time, if the editor possesses the authorization.

In the templates each kind of HTML, DHTML, Javascript etc.. can be integrated.

The appearance of individual contents of a page is defined by output types, which are likewise centrally administered. Output types determine e.g. the character fonts, sizes and standard formatting as well as the arrangement of the contents (text, image ...) to each other.

An identical content object can be represented differently thereby through different output types on a page in different places of this page.

Is there an integrated search function for the website?
The search machine Verity K2 is integrated and supports both full text and index search in the internal editorship area as well as for the users of the website.

Is there the possibility to automatically generate sitemaps and index sites?
Yes. The sitemap can be inserted as CONTENS standard module in every place in the website.

Arbitrary dynamic link lists can be written in the widespread programming language ColdFusion and easily integrated.

Is there an automatic link verification with a corresponding correction?
All internal links are produced automatically and corrected if necessary, if the destination changes.

External links are examined by the integrated link checker and their status is displayed in a link report.

Can you define dynamic categories on websites, in which further relevant links are indicated?
Highest possible flexibility is given by link objects and applications with link functionality.

Is it possible to design a generally valid navigation, which is adapted to the context?
During recreating, deleting or off-line switching the navigation is supplemented dynamically with the indicated page titles. The page titles can be changed at any time.

Is there an integrated version backup?
Yes. Both on page and on object level earlier versions can be restored.

Can a version backup be implemented through additional software?
That is not necessary, as it is already integrated in CONTENS by default.

Can earlier versions of the website or individual components be reestablished and if yes, to which extent?
All contents are archived and they can be restored up to the first version.

The recovery can refer to a whole page or to individual content of a page.

Each published version is stored automatically in archives.

Is there an integrated template editor?
Templates are usually provided together with the implementing agency.

The editors are enabled to freely place the content elements on the templates and to change it belated. Templates can also be provided by HTML-experienced administrators via editors such as HomeSite.

With the help of the editor integrated in CONTENS, these templates can then be changed by entitled persons.

Can external editors be integrated? If yes which?
Contents are normally edited directly in the webbrowser. Data can be copied from external editors such as Frontpage, Dreamweaver or the like and inserted in CONTENS.

Is there an object-oriented authoring?
Yes. The contents of the pages are handled as objects.

Customers can define and set up own object classes with the help of a comfortable wizard.

It can be defined, of which different elements (text, image, file...) an object class has to consist of, how the elements are to be called (e.g. heading, source...), whether contents should be language dependent and whether an input is necessary or not (optionally/required).

Can multilingual contents be administrated?
Yes. Individual pages and whole page trees are transferred into another language version with the help of a wizard. It can be selected whether the content structure (not the contents themselves) is to be copied.

Beyond that it is possible to define for each individual object at any time whether it is to be available in another language version.

Therefore the libraries offer the possibility of categorizing contents such as images or download files as language dependent. Thus e.g. downloads in German can not be inserted on the English website. At the same time contents, which were not marked as language dependent, are automatically transferred to a new language version, so that the editors have less work to do.

For the translation of an existing website there is a split-screen view, in which several language versions can be displayed and edited at the same time.

If an individual object is available in different language versions, it is possible to switch in the object between the language versions. Difficult toggling between different language versions is therewith redundant.

Are multilingual clients available?
The user surface of CONTENS 2.5 professional is available by default in German and English (French is in preparation).

For each editor the menu language can be individually adjusted.

With which techniques can an editor transfer contents to the system?
The following possibilities are available to the editors:

1. Recording contents via object input windows directly on the respective web page

2. Transferring of contents by copy & paste

3. Integration of external data sources by file upload or direct database connection

4. Import of Word and Excel files including formatting (adjustable) directly into a form field

5. Import of structured Word files as complete object

6. XML-import via customized XML- Importscripts.

Which possibilities are there for editors to work on contents?
Editors work on contents directly on the website via forms (WYSIWYG view).

In addition contents can be worked on also via the libraries.
