MEDICA.de, the Internet portal of the largest international medical exhibition, MEDICA, and the MEDICA congress in Düsseldorf continues to soar on an upswing. According to recently published numbers, the bilingual portal at http://www.medica.de boasted a total of 7.3 million hits / page impressions in 2003 (2002: approximately 6.2 million). The number of visits actually rose by over 30 percent to 820,000 visits (2002: 590,000). The peak value of 2.7 million page impressions, representing an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year, was achieved in November. This was to be expected because the exhibition and the congress were running at the same time.

"The fact that the website is not only used at the time of the exhibition is particularly good news." Dr. Martin Huch, portal manager of Messe Düsseldorf, considers the concept of the year-round availability of the information, communication and service platform parallel to the actual exhibition and congress realised. This is supported by the facts. For example, the portal had 30,000 visits in July 2003, which represents an increase of 111 percent (!) compared to the values achieved in the previous year. Similar increases were realised regarding the page visits in June 2003, while the months of January and February 2003 showed a plus of 50 percent, respectively.

The reason for this success of MEDICA.de lies possibly in the even better developed news and information competency on medical-technological topics and current aspects of the health care sector. During the previous year, professional medical journalists of the editorial team of beta-web submitted 1,825 articles exclusively to the portal, whereby these articles were based on current research and focused on varying topic areas each month. By the way, over 3,000 subscribers to the weekly MEDICA.de newsletter also benefit from the issues discussed.

Another extensive area is the exhibitor and visitor service, which is the core offering of MEDICA.de. For example, free services such as the event database for a quick search for topics and dates of courses, seminars, presentations, special exhibitions and information sessions or the MEDICA database and online showrooms must be emphasised. Here, the user has access to the exhibitor and product information of the MEDICA exhibitors, whose numbers exceeded 3,900 at last count. Meetings at the stands can be arranged online, as well.

Exhibitors have the possibility to order exhibition-specific offerings and services on the net. Nearly all orders that are crucial to fair organisation can be taken care of quickly and effectively via the online order system.

Messe Düsseldorf is supported by beta-web GmbH (Bonn/ Berlin) with regards to the organisation of MEDICA.de.

27.02.2004, Martin-Ulf Koch (Pressereferat Messe Düsseldorf) / Anke Pätsch (beta-web)
