At this years International Information Industry (III) Awards the Open Source project of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, based on the CMS elevateIT, won in the category "Project Awards - Innovation in Content Management" (http://www.online-information.co.uk/ol05/awards.html).
The Information Industry Award is an international event, which took place for the third time (on 30th of November 2005) in London in connection with the Online Information exhibition and conference for online content and information management solutions (http://www.iwr.co.uk/). The awards offer the chance for the global industry to recognise the achievements of information teams, information and content management projects, vendors and individual information professionals. The evening was moderated by Sir Trevor MacDonald OBE and almost 400 guests were in attendance to salute excellence in the information field.
The awards were given in four main categories:
1. Project Awards
2. Product/Vendor Awards
3. Best Information/ Knowledge Team Awards
4. Individual Awards
Together with the software producer, Munich-based SYSLAB.COM, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work fought for awards among 65 other contestants. On 9th of September 2005 the Agency activated the layout for their new information portal (http://osha.eu.int). With an entirely new internet presence and a flexible access to all relevant information on safety and health at work the Agency provides a unique information forum for all users and interested visitors of their web site.
One of the technical innovations of the system is the portal entrance. This facilitates a consistent access to the various information of the network. For the first time it is now possible to directly view and query all information about Safety and Health at Work, all 31 Partner websites and service functions.
Thus the system will for instance connect the visitor directly to sought-after information about a certain topic as well as to the partner websites, if required. The "Top 5" topics display the visitors´ state of interest, while the two portlets "News" and "Events" give an overview of current happenings about safety and health at work in the EU. The user furthermore has the possibility to personalize the site and to subscribe the Agency's newsletter. The unrestricted access to all information about the Agency and its publications and activities rounds up the picture.
Katherine Allen, Director of Information Division at VNU Exhibitions Europe (www.vnuexhibitions.co.uk) comments, "We are delighted with the calibre of this year's entrants, all demonstrating excellence in their field and the judges had a tough decision choosing the winners! The awards are now in their third year and have become firmly established as the leading forum for the information industry to showcase and celebrate its achievements and Online Information was delighted to host this ceremony with Information World Review."
