Pironet NDH Operates Corporate Network for Malteser

MTG Malteser Trägergesellschaft gGmbH (MTG) has switched its corporate network to one based on MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) for its hospitals, elderly care facilities, hospices/palliative facilities and outpatient care services in Germany. In order to centrally and securely administrate the combined, large-scale communication and data exchange processes involved, Pironet NDH provides MTG with the MPLS technology which ensures highly efficient data exchange between all linked facilities and offers the option to add on other entities at any time.
MTG has already operated its business systems, including accounting, personnel accounting and materials management, in a centralized manner in the past at the Bonn data center using the range of services offered by Pironet NDH. Initially, eight locations were linked to one another via an Internet-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) and individual fixed connections. Along with the data center solutions, the network was also used as a communication platform, e.g. for internal email correspondence. "The common communication platform made it possible for us to work together much more closely at that time, even within the respective computer departments. This has now become common practice," sums up MTG Project Manager Nils Alwardt.
Within the context of the quick growth of MTG and increasing IT requirements in the health care industry, MTG began consolidating its IT systems at the Bonn data center last year. The project is to be completed by the end of 2005. Within the scope of this consolidation, a more cost-effective and efficient administration of the network and the respective security measures, such as firewalls, encryption and virus protection, became necessary. Using the corporate network created by Pironet NDH based on MPLS, these demands were met and quick data exchange, including sensitive patient data and x-rays, ensured.
During an implementation phase, 23 locations were networked in the first half of last year and another six locations have been connected since then. The administration of the corporate network will be completely assumed by Pironet NDH at a set, calculated monthly fixed price. At the same time, MTG benefits from comprehensive service and support from one source, including guaranteed, high bandwidths for data transfer, quick reaction times and 24-7 support. "The completed solution will meet the high security standards in the health care sector and is flexibly structured to grow with us," summarizes Bernd Christoph Meisheit, Business Unit Manager of IT and Organization at MTG.
