The General Teaching Council (GTC) has selected Mediasurface to provide an integrated website which will allow over half a million teachers, LEAs and members of the wider education community easier access to important information on policy and standards within teaching.

The GTC is the professional body for teaching and is responsible for advising Government and regulating the profession. In a move to take direct control of its own online content – an area in which it has always had dependencies on other companies in the past; the GTC has purchased the Mediasurface 5 Government Site Pack and the innovative Morello, along with consultancy and support in a contract worth £120k. The new solution, which is to be integrated by Mediasurface partner Capgemini, with an Oracle CRM system, will allow the company to provide the most up-to-date information on its website, in the shortest timeframe possible.

Following a recent and comprehensive evaluation of the current method of maintaining the website, Capgemini was tasked with product selection. The Mediasurface solution was short-listed and the GTC made the decision to select Mediasurface due to the breadth of functionality that it offered and the opportunity to easily bring the capability of WCM in-house. It was also a future-proofed solution and had the potential and flexibility for future expansion into multimedia channels such as DTV and SMS.

GTC Web Manager, Craig Wentworth said: "The Mediasurface solution will enable the GTC to manage a fast-growing website that lies at the heart of our integrated communications strategy. With Mediasurface we'll be able to take control of this important resource ourselves and provide teachers and other stakeholders with a wide range of material on education policy and research, standards and regulation, continuing professional development as well as enhanced support for the GTC's professional networks. Through this integrated solution, visitors will also be able to join our networks and receive email updates - helping us to promote the work of teachers through the work of the GTC."

Capgemini has considerable experience at integrating Oracle CRM with Mediasurface and will be providing software development and customisation on the project. David Blackwood, project consultant at Capgemini said: “We have worked with Mediasurface as an organisation on several occasions and have a good relationship with them. Mediasurface CMS as a product has a tendency to go beyond all client expectations in terms of what it can do.”

The go-live date for the new website is scheduled for April 2005.
