Since the beginning of the year the City of Biel’s new Web offering (www.biel-bienne.ch) has been available on the Internet. The most current version of CONTENS’ Content Management System was also employed in the context of the relaunch. The new Internet appearance was designed in co-operation with the CONTENS Premium Partner New Impact AG to be more product-oriented and, thusly, more customer-friendly.

Right in time for the new year, the City of Biel published its completely updated Web offering for its citizens. The website ensures easy navigation on a site, in three languages, that might otherwise prove hard for its user to orient themselves. A conscious effort was made to present the pages’ content with generous illustrations and representations, in order to prevent an abundance of information from irritating users. The tried and true colour coding on the pages tips users off as to which section he or she is currently in, making it easier for inexperienced online users to find their way around. Care was additionally taken to make sure that all important menu options were never more than two mouse clicks away.

Especially helpful for the citizens of Biel is the Online Services section; tips on public authority issues as well as downloadable forms and documents can be found here. A keyword search index helps visitors quickly and systematically find information on the website.

Sandra Oesch, head of City Marketing in Biel, is pleased with the all-around successful relaunch with CONTENS, “We were able to quickly realise our ideal of an even more user friendly city portal for our citizens.” An updated version of CONTENS, in action since 2001, now lets editors produce and maintain content much more efficiently. “We can allow a higher level of independence in the content management by updating content, which once again benefits all our citizens," explains Oesch.
