CoreMedia, provider of trusted digital rights management (DRM), is appearing at the 3GSM WorldCongress in Cannes (February 14 – 17) with their global partners HP and IBM to show the future of comprehensive DRM technology. Centerpiece of the CoreMedia showcases is the business opportunities of viral marketing through Superdistribution.

After announcing the global agreement in November 2004 with Vodafone, CoreMedia DRM has taken the lead in the mobile DRM technology industry for 3G service delivery platforms and secure full-track music downloads. CoreMedia DRM-enabled services are launching in Africa, Asia-Pacific and across Europe. In addition to providing protection for the artists’ works, CoreMedia DRM enables new P2P business models including promotion, gifting and Superdistribution. CoreMedia has gained support from major music labels including EMI, SonyBMG, Warner and various independent labels around the globe.

“For the music industry, Superdistribution is a very promising and intriguing concept”, says Tim van Dyk, Director New Business & Market Research, Warner Music Group Germany Holding. “CoreMedia DRM is the state-of-the-art platform for creating new music services with innovative P2P concepts to generate new sales channels for our artists.”

Together with IBM, CoreMedia will demonstrate a comprehensive Service Delivery Platform using CoreMedia DRM, showing the true potential of Superdistribution and multi-DRM in a convergent environment.
At the HP Solution Centre, CoreMedia will showcase the capability of its DRM technology for wireline and wireless multi-domain management in the digital home.

At 3GSM, CoreMedia features its globally trusted DRM technology:

- Superdistribution – from content packaging, shopping, and distributing to exploring the opportunities of viral marketing

- Multi-DRM – the combination of different DRM technologies for the benefit of interoperability with OMA 1.0/2.O and Windows Media DRM between handsets or PCs

- Asset Management for DRM protected content

“Today we are experiencing a growing acceptance by consumers for DRM-protected valuable content. We are at the edge of the next era, in which music, movies and games will be downloaded and distributed in home networks, on handsets and within P2P groups”, predicts Sören Stamer, Co-Founder and CEO of CoreMedia. “Currently we have only a glimpse of the potential for mobile operators with Superdistribution and multi-DRM.”

CoreMedia DRM, which runs with over 200 mobile handset models and also comes with a client SDK for PCs and set-top boxes, has gained broad industry support in the past year from content suppliers and network operators alike. Services include a wide variety of content including full-track music, games, and video clips. In addition to protecting the artists’ works, CoreMedia DRM allows new P2P business models including promotion, gifting and Superdistribution.
