Colorado’s third largest city improves employee productivity, increases timely access to information, and reduces costs with Stellent image, records, document and Web content management initiatives

Stellent, Inc. (Nasdaq: STEL), a global provider of content management solutions, announced today the City of Aurora, Colo., the state’s third largest city with a population of more than 290,000 residents, has scaled Stellent® Universal Content Management across its enterprise to power a variety of image, records, document and Web content management initiatives across its 17 departments, including the management of public Web site and intranet content.

Aurora is reaping significant benefits from its Stellent Universal Content Management implementation, including improved employee productivity, increased timely access to information and reduced costs. For example, the Stellent system provides Aurora with a visual display of its large volume of records –– such as permits, licenses, forms, tax information, building plans and applications –– resulting in greater internal communication and quicker decision-making among city employees. In addition, Aurora’s enhanced Web content management capabilities enable the city to automatically publish content –– including internal and external newsletters, news releases, human resource forms, and policies and procedures –– to its Web properties, reducing Web development costs and making information more readily available to the public.

“Stellent Universal Content Management’s scalable and comprehensive functionality –– which enabled us to utilize the system across our enterprise –– was the key reason we chose it over other technologies,” said Larry Hibbs, applications development supervisor for the City of Aurora. “Our success with the Stellent system can be largely attributed to its ease-of-use, which resulted in high user-adoption rates across our organization. It’s also important to note our Stellent implementation played a key role in the City of Aurora being recognized as the fifth most technology advanced city in America with a population of more than 250,000 by the Center for Digital Government.”

The City of Aurora is using the Stellent software suite in a number of ways that support the city’s position as an early adopter of technology. For instance, Aurora is one of the first government organizations to leverage Stellent’s award-winning multi-site management solution, Site Studio. In November 2004, Aurora deployed a newly designed public Web site (www.auroragov.org) powered by Site Studio, enabling the city’s information technology (IT) department to retain central control of major Web site aspects –– such as design and navigation structure –– while giving each department the freedom to deliver specialized content to the site on demand and easily keep it up-to-date without IT assistance.

Aurora also is creating its own unique applications of the Stellent technology. For example, the city is deploying an internal geographical information system (GIS)-based record search. With this application, an employee can simply highlight a portion of a city map, and the Stellent system will retrieve all documents and records pertaining to the address, subdivision and/or annexation selected  providing access to all planning/development data in one place. Furthermore, since the process of electronically retrieving records has become so efficient, Aurora is considering making some records of public interest –– including blueprints, permits and licenses –– securely available on its new Web site.

“Aurora is a shining example of an organization that has leveraged the single-platform Universal Content Management architecture to first meet a line-of-business need and later scale the technology to alleviate enterprise-wide information management challenges,” said Robert Olson, president and chief executive officer for Stellent. “This functionality can drive rapid success for large government organizations, like Aurora, that continually strive to maximize the value and benefits of their IT investments.”
