Cultural events of the KBB GmbH, relies on the software house e-Spirit for all business units

The Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH (KBB) has decided to use the Enterprise Content Management Technology FIRSTspirit for the implementation of the Internet sites. KBB’s complete intranet will be realized based on the solution of the Dortmund software house e-Spirit. Also with the help of FIRSTspirit, over 40,000 internet pages will inform about the International Film Festival Berlin. The International Film Festival (Berlinale), the Berlin festivals and the House of the Cultures of the World belong to the business units of the Berliner Kulturveranstaltungen.

Berlin’s biggest cultural event:

More than 17,000 professional visitors, of which 3,800 are journalists from 80 different countries, accredit themselves every year for the International Film Festival. This is a mammoth event, but also a festival of the encounter and of discussions. With over 180,000 tickets sold, the Berlinale is not only an industry meeting point but also rather the biggest public festival worldwide. Art, glamour, party and business are for two weeks in close proximity to each other. The Berlinale program also shows about 340 films every year. For the most part these are world or European premiers. Films from all genres, countries and formats can be submitted for application.

New Design of the Berlinale :

Concurrent with the implementation of the Enterprise Content Management Technology FIRSTspirit, the design for the Berlinale internet site has been renewed by an external agency. On the one hand the complete content is accessible in German or English, on the other hand the navigation provides the opportunity to respond to the different phases of the International Film Festival. Navigational elements can be individually disabled in the course of the year. They are still visible but not functional. In this way the visitor sees the accustomed navigation even if for example the current program of the next Berlinale is not available yet.

55 years in the archive:

On www.berlinale.de not only about 2000 internet pages inform the visitor about the current Berlinale, but also another 38,000 archive pages reflect half a century of film history. These pages contain detailed information of the past 55 film festivals in Berlin. For example you can find all the juries, awarded prizes and data sheets of all the films ever presented. To facilitate finding specific information there is a search form that allows for refined search with many parameters.

Modern information platform:

To keep all media representatives up to date, FIRSTspirit is used to publish press releases on the internet. The automatic dispatch of this information by means of an e-mail mailing list is planned and has already been implemented through the Content Management System.

Also the large list of film buyers on the worldwide film market – the so-called buyers’ list – will be automatically generated as a PDF-document from the main database of the Berlinale.

For the content management processes an external database was connected via the integration platform FIRSTspirit. It has also proved its value with the integration of external online applications, such as, "Meine Berlinale" (My Berlinale) and the complex programme search.
