FileNet Corporation, a provider of Enterprise Content and Business Process Management solutions, has introduced FileNet P8 Active Storage and Retrieval services, a technology capability of its FileNet P8 Enterprise Content Management platform and the main element of the Company's strategy in an attempt to provide customers with an approach to the policy-driven movement of content throughout its storage lifecycle, also known as Information Lifecycle Management.

ASAR services are designed to enable integration between the FileNet P8 ECM platform and storage vendor's technologies including EMC, HP, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM, Network Appliance, Plasmon and Sun, are designed to enable content lifecycle management--the ability to manage content migration to different data storage tiers and individual storage platforms based on the business value of content.

ASAR services are intended to provide new capabilities, delivered in the 3.5 version of FileNet P8, to allow customers to dynamically and intelligently manage content throughout the entire content, process, and storage lifecycle, designed to integrate with many types of storage media--irrespective of technology or vendor platform.

The FileNet P8 ASAR services solution also features a BPM capability which enables users to leverage a programmed step within automated business processes that can, again, move data from one storage media to another as needed. For example, a step can be added within any business transaction that if certain criteria are met, the document is declared a record. In this case, the process would map the document to protected storage media in accordance with specific compliance mandates.

ASAR services offers an open application interface supporting virtually any type of magnetic disk storage device, as well as removable media technologies. Specialized connectors to magnetic WORM products such as SnapLock from Network Appliance enable tight integration with compliance storage devices.
