CMS integration within the SAP Enterprise Portal

EADS, the world’s leading aerospace and defense provider, has implemented the FIRSTspirit Content Management System (CMS) in its headquarters, for managing and creating web-based content in the SAP Enterprise Portal (SAP EP). With this first prototype, the organization wants to take a forerunner position in the strategic use of the "SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit”, which has recently been certified by SAP. The objective is to perfect online editorial work in synergy with the SAP Enterprise Portal. Companies that participated in the project were HLP Information Management GmbH (www.hlp.de) as well as the CMS provider e-Spirit (www.e-spirit.de).

Alexander Kandt, Employee portal Manager at EADS, had this to say: "Web-based editorial work has a high priority at EADS Group headquarters. Consequently we had the requirement that editorial work, as part of the portal, should proceed in a manner that was as structured, efficient, and professional as possible - ideally without requiring the online editors to acquire SAP skills for their task. This step has been successfully achieved with the new SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit.”

Practical work with the SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit
The online editors will also work professionally in their FIRSTspirit editorial environment in the future, without the necessity of SAP skills for creating and displaying new navigation structures, including having to set up roles and permissions in the SAP Enterprise Portal. Moreover logging into the portal once (Single-Sign-On) suffices for immediate access to all relevant applications - including FIRSTspirit.
The new "SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit” also enables automatic and unlimited content management with automatic updating in background mode - content can be in multiple languages, and thanks to XML, it is media-neutral, hyperlink-capable, it can be personalized, and it is governed by the SAP Enterprise Portal permission concept.
The integration of FIRSTspirit within the SAP Enterprise Portal has succeeded in a manner that is very powerful, is the summary of the portal manufacturer’s specialists upon conclusion of the prototype phase. In this regard, complete transparency is provided for the user - a seamless transition relative to navigation, look, and content. To this point we have not seen any integration within the SAP Enterprise Portal that is deeper than that which has been integrated with the SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit.

On the basis of the prototype which has now been successfully concluded, over the next few months further project steps or integration steps will follow, in which we will successively integrate additional departmental content - managed by FIRSTspirit - within the portal, and in total, develop the SAP Enterprise Portal into a powerful employee portal with the FIRSTspirit technology.

More information on the "SAP EP Business Package for FIRSTspirit” is available at www.hlp.de as well as at www.FIRSTspirit.de.
