Information events organized by SerCon and e-Spirit - total success

Portals and Enterprise Content Management were the focal points of two events organized by SerCon GmbH in cooperation with e-Spirit, at the beginning of June. The events were the two companies response to the current high level of interest in this topic and they provided detailed information on fundamentals and practical examples.

The key to e-Business

Portals are not a fashionable trend for opulent IT budgets, rather they solve solid integration problems in interplay with existing backend systems. They offer focused access to information and application offerings on the Internet as well as on the Intranet. In addition, Enterprise Content Management (ECM) has not just been a recent aid in managing an enterprise’s increasingly complex information in a manner that is media neutral and user friendly. Linking ECM and portal is relevant wherever linking users, customers, employees, suppliers, partners, and prospects together with business IT systems, in short e-Business, is a major interest.

Significant interest in portal technologies

The objective of the information events was to show the application areas of Enterprise Content Management and portal technologies to the numerous participants. Thus SerCon consultants laid out the theoretical foundation for Content Management Systems, before CMS manufacturer e-Spirit demonstrated practical implementation possibilities using the FIRSTspirit software as the example. In addition the capabilities of the IBM WebSphere portal server were copiously demonstrated live. Here the emphasis was centered on methods for working on documents jointly.

Interplay between portal and ECM

The simple and efficient management of editorial content was also demonstrated using examples. Information that is directly entered and managed in the FIRSTspirit content management solution can be brought directly into the portal, without special skills - and considering portal characteristics such as themes and permissions. In this regard it was also shown that FIRSTspirit works independently of specific portal technologies. Content from the Content Management System was published in the IBM portal server, as well as in the corresponding SAP solution.

Moreover the connection from FIRSTspirit to the SAP R/3 backend system was also demonstrated. In this case a certified standard interface exists in order to access the ERP information.

Satisfied participants

Stephan Woltering, CEO of the e-Spirit GmbH, was very satisfied with the resonance experienced at the events. "The feedback from both events was consistently positive - in Frankfurt, as well as in Stuttgart, participants confirmed to us that their expectations of the imparted knowledge were completely satisfied.

I was particularly pleased that the strategic significance of the solution approaches that were shown met with a lot of interest as this is the key for effective access to the diversity of information and thus the key to the future of enterprise communication.”
