The internationally active pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly recently published their medical information portal handling the topic of sepsis using the CMS platform CONTENS. By using CONTENS they were able to link the many different country-specific websites over a centralized European website. The decision for CONTENS was met due to the excellent user interface and the convincing cost-benefit ratio.

The new medicinal portal at www.aboutsepsis.com is geared towards healthcare professionals such as intensive doctors, nurses, students of medicine and pharmacists. It offers detailed information about sepsis, a deadly infection that claims around 215,000 lives each year in the US alone.

After completing registration, doctors have access to current, quality information regarding diagnosing sepsis, modern therapy options and clinical case studies, as well as interviews with recognized experts. The top-class European editorial board is responsible for content. ”In a time when doctor and patient information is always gaining importance, interactive disease portals have proved that their value will only increase. Healthcare professionals are looking for unbiased information about illnesses as well as their diagnosis and treatment… most importantly, independent from the product of a specific manufacturer. This offers pharmaceutical firms an excellent opportunity to get closer to customers and increase their surplus,” reported Christina Henne at Docslogic.

The use of CONTENS enabled a whole list of European websites about sepsis to be summarized on a central portal.

The responsible communications experts at Eli Lilly decided on CONTENS due to its integrated support of multiple language versions and the easy-to-learn user interface. Further reasons that spoke in favor of CONTENS were the flexible workflow system and the strong cost-benefit analysis.

Susan Betito, European Junior Brand Manager for Xigris, explicates, "CONTENS is very flexible and saves us a lot of time. Before we using CONTENS, it had been difficult and time-consuming just to make changes on the websites. But that’s changed now.” Since the content on the portal was to be managed by health professionals across Europe, it was important the CMS be easy to understand and quick to learn. Susan Betito underlines the point that "with CONTENS, no one needs any specific technical background to make changes on the website. The interface is really very easy to work with.”

The Swiss-based CONTENS partner PARX AG (www.park.ch), in cooperation with Doslogic AG (www.doslogic.com), commanded the project’s conceptual design and realization.
