New version of FIRSTspirit offers intelligent package management and clustering
Dortmund-based manufacturer, The e-Spirit Company, has released the latest version of its Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) ith FIRSTspirit 3.1. Foremost among the numerous functional enhancements of the new system are the support of high-availability environments, and the introduction of high-performance package management with which different content objects can be brought together and prepared for different projects. In addition, the search functionalities in the editorial environment and the general user interface have been further optimized. The new and extended functions represent particular solutions that meet the growing requirements of large enterprises and organizations. With the launch of FIRSTspirit 3.1 e-Spirit underlines its position as one of the leading technologically solution providers in the ECMS market. The company will present the new version of FIRSTspirit at Systems in Munich, from the 24th to the 28th of October (Hall A2, booth 118). Created once and used multiple times The new package management makes it possible for FIRSTspirit content objects - for example content and media - to be collected in so-called packages and prepared for subscription or import in various target projects. Such target projects could be different Internet sites of an enterprise, for example. The advantage of this intelligent functionality: Content objects can be created and managed at a central point in the respective master project. The package can then be imported automatically or manually via subscription. In this manner, working with uniform data throughout the enterprise is significantly facilitated. Objects like corporate logos, navigation structures, or section templates are simply prepared in a package for all interested projects. If package objects change, such as a document change, then a new package version is generated and propagated to all target projects that have obtained a valid subscription for this package. Thus all content objects always remain current. High-availability editorial environment in the cluster Another highlight of the new version of the FIRSTspirit software is support for implementation in high-availability environments. This ensures that the FIRSTspirit server, which is separated from the actual production environment, remains available for editorial access at any time. Using a commercial high-availability solution, such as Veritas Cluster Service, an environment is provided that monitors the FIRSTspirit server and ensures that it continues running without problems on a different system in the event of a software or hardware failure. The Cluster Service detects the failure of a server or of a service and initiates a restart of the service on the standby system. Searched, found Another highlight of the current version is the improvement in the search functionalities for editors. In addition to a functional enhancement of the full-text search, now the hits are also visualized directly. The search text is marked in the respective editorial environment forms. In addition, a powerful search function has been introduced via the managed metadata, as well as the full-text search in templates. Extending the system configuration Far-reaching extensions have also been implemented for administrators to facilitate server configuration. In particular, the deployment strategy for publication of Internet sites has been significantly optimized. Also the Java Access API has been extended for access to system functionalities. 05.10.2005, Marc Kleine, e-Spirit Company GmbH
