Factiva(R), a Dow Jones and Reuters Company, today announced the introduction of Factiva Search(sm) 2.0. Powered by Factiva Discovery Technologies(TM), a suite of capabilities that leverage text mining technologies, advanced content visualization and Factiva's patented taxonomy, Factiva Search 2.0 provides a revolutionary user experience so that information workers can quickly find the information they need to support critical business decisions.

Factiva Search 2.0 searches across Factiva's more than 9,000 authoritative sources, including The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones and Reuters newswires and more than 3,500 of the most influential Web sites. This next generation of search delivers relevant results that are organized by subjects, companies, industries and associated themes and presented in a graphical format for interactive navigation. Additionally, the discovery functionality identifies trends and themes around search topics and terms. Factiva.com customers can currently experience Factiva Search 2.0 in a beta version.

"Both experienced searchers and business users will seize these tools to help them discover what they don't even know to ask," said Sue Feldman, vice president for content technologies at IDC. "The new Factiva interface may well change how people search. For instance, most people conduct a broad search first and then are faced with too many results. Or, they may perform narrow search and miss important facts. Factiva's new interface invites a broad search, but it lets users narrow down their searches by topic, company, person or date. It is endlessly interactive."

According to IDC, business professionals spend upwards of 25% of their work week looking for internal and external information to support business decisions and more than 50% of searches are unsuccessful. "Factiva Search 2.0 changes that," said Clare Hart, president and CEO, Factiva. "In today's ultra- competitive marketplace, more and more businesses are looking to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their information workers to gain competitive advantage and impact the company's bottom line. Factiva Search 2.0 significantly decreases the time spent locating information while providing more relevant and actionable results."

Ms. Hart added, "Because people can't possibly process all of the information presented to them via traditional search mechanisms, they often make business decisions based on preliminary information and limited knowledge. Factiva Search 2.0 identifies all of the information and issues to allow people to make truly informed decisions based on comprehensive information."

The initial beta introduction includes results ranked by relevancy that can also be sorted by date in an alternative view. It provides contextual snippets where search results include the first occurrence of the terms so that users can quickly determine if an article is relevant. Additionally, recommendations are offered for company names and correct spellings and searches that are recognized to include public companies will automatically surface stock quote information above the headlines.

During the Factiva Search 2.0 beta period, Factiva will gather customer feedback that will help to define and clarify how these powerful capabilities should be included in Factiva's existing products and services. Following the beta period, some or all functionalities will be integrated into Factiva.com and other Factiva products. Factiva Search 2.0 is one of many new capabilities based on Factiva Discovery Technologies that will be introduced in 2006 and will continue to redefine how professionals find and understand business information.
