eSoft, Inc., vendor of integrated Internet security and content management solutions, announced a new release of its SiteFilter(TM) SoftPak for the ThreatWall Content Security Gateway. The new release integrates Transparent Authentication for Windows Active Directory, and unlike other solutions, does not require additional software on the Microsoft Windows Server.
SiteFilter empowers companies to maximize workforce productivity by monitoring and enforcing the use of company Internet resources. SiteFilter also protects against legal liability brought on by inappropriate or illegal use of the Internet. A database containing millions of global URLs is continually updated with web sites in 30 categories, and policy-based control allows companies to select specific categories that should be blocked at different times of day and which users are affected.
The SiteFilter update enables network administrators using the ThreatWall Content Security Gateway to specify web usage policies for particular user groups or on a per-user basis within the Windows Active Directory server. When a user browses the Internet, their Windows login is used to identify them, and appropriate SiteFilter policies are assigned automatically -- there is no need for additional username and password prompts. SiteFilter also creates detailed reports by user so that managers can continuously assess web usage and evaluate corporate policies.
"Web filtering is a powerful tool for improving employee productivity, and integration with Active Directory addresses the specific needs of certain vertical markets, such as education, that have a regularly changing set of users," said Scott Lukes, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at eSoft. "Transparent authentication using the Windows login credentials simplifies web filtering management and provides deployment flexibility for enforcing corporate web policies."
