The BMA signs contract with Amaze and Tridion for Content Management

The British Medical Association (BMA) today signs a deal with business-driven technology solutions company Amaze and Tridion, the recognised European leader in Content Management Solutions to supply the BMA with an enterprise-wide and flexible Content Management Solution. The solution will become the standardised method to publish content across the entire enterprise.

Initially there will be two key areas which will be serviced by this solution, the BMA website and the internal knowledge base. Brian Butler, Director of Communications at the BMA says, "This will allow us, for the very first time, to share information across the whole organisation. We don’t know what we know, and we don’t know what we don’t know, so by implementing this solution this situation will radically change. Ultimately it is our duty to help our members by providing them information and advice and this solution is essential to improve our service to them."

The knowledge base will be essentially an online portal which will be very comprehensive with the highest level of access for members of the organisation internally. The key to the success of the solution is based upon developing a clear understanding of the requirements of the BMA and the different user groups (internal and external), which range from academics and doctors to the general public. So if a user accesses the portal, it will depend on their profile as to the level of access to information that they can reach.

From policy documents and official responses to government white papers to membership information and conference details, there are up to 150 contributors who create and modify content for the website. The solution had to be flexible enough to communicate with peer groups as well as track content within workflow and provide version control, review cycles, auditing and deadlines. In addition a taxonomy is being developed by the BMA in partnership with Amaze. This categorisation system will apply to more than 8,000 documents that already exist which will be migrated to the new system, as well as to any future content.
