Minq Software Ships New Major Version of DbVisualizer, The Universal Database Tool

The new version adds support for SQL Server 2005, Sybase 15, explain plan for Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server. In addition a universal binary installer for Mac OS X on Intel, PL/SQL editor and compiler for Oracle and full key binding support with pre-defined key maps.

Minq Software today announced the general availability of DbVisualizer 5.0, a world leading, cost effective, cross platform database tool that increases user productivity by providing a single solution to speed development, testing and administration of relational databases. DbVisualizer offers a robust set of features to assist database developers and DBAs perform tasks such as object browsing, creation, running SQL statements and SQL scripts, viewing and editing data, editing and compiling procedures, functions and explain plan support for some databases. Additionally, this tool includes features such as a the powerful table references graph, SQL formatter, result set charting and SQL bookmarks feature.

DbVisualizer supports all major commercial databases including Oracle, DB2, Mimer, SQL Server, Sybase ASE, Informix and open source alternatives such as MySQL and PostgreSQL. DbVisualizer is optimized for the Windows XP, Mac OS X and Linux/UNIX operating systems.

The new release adds explain plan support for Oracle, SQL Server and DB2. The plan highlights critical access paths for queries as reported by the database server. DbVisualizer allows comparing explain plan result during the development cycle which eases the process to reach the final optimized SQL. The SQL editor has been greatly enhanced and now features the new configurable SQL formatter and pre-defined keyboard maps for editing. Oracle users may manage PL/SQL objects such as create, edit and compile. Additional enhancements includes management to create, alter, dropping database objects and support for SQL Server 2005 and Sybase 15.
