news4mobile now with tag cloud for mobile links: Rapid access to high-quality mobile links
Now there are even more ways to access the increasing number of mobile websites registered with news4mobile. In addition to rankings, which are determined by things like the site’s overall quality and the number of hits it receives, tagging is also growing in popularity. This involves assigning tags (keywords) to a website as a way of identifying and describing it.
Since users will enter a variety of tags, rigid, hierarchical categorization becomes a thing of the past. Visitors to news4mobile see a ranking of the tags, an alphabetical listing, and a "tag cloud”, which depicts the 100 most common terms, with each term's font size reflecting its relative popularity. As a result, "news", "finance", and "travel" tags are shown more often and therefore in a larger font.
The Community area in news4mobile has also been expanded with personal bookmark lists and homepages, voting, regional information according to postal code, and news items between members. Running continuously in the background, special processes ensure quality and accessibility of the links. Other information about the websites - such as HTML quality and file size - are displayed under "info”.
"We are continuously improving the news4mobile portal so we can offer our users true value in the form of new ways to access high-quality mobile websites," according to Veikko Wünsche, Managing Director of Lightwerk GmbH and operator of news4mobile. "In particular, the feedback we get from members of the community using a wide range of mobile devices is enormously helpful."
German magazine Internet Professionell featured news4mobile as its website of the month for August 2006.
Working together with Fraunhofer IAO, news4mobile started the news4mobile Award, which will be presented in Stuttgart in November 2006. German registered websites can apply for the award at www.news4mobile.de.
