Stellent, Inc. (Nasdaq: STEL), a provider of content management solutions, announced today the City of St. Albert in Alberta, Canada plans to deploy Stellent Universal Content Management to more efficiently manage records and comply with government regulations.

Specifically, the Stellent system will help the City of St. Albert execute its current records and retention management plan, which, in part, is driven by legislative mandates including Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). The purpose of the Act is to "make public bodies more accountable to the public and to protect personal privacy” by giving citizens the right to access records and personal information. Stellent Universal Content Management will provide St. Albert employees with electronic access to records and documents, improving productivity and collaboration across its departments by easing the process of searching, retrieving and sharing information previously stored in hard-copy format. Consequently, employees will find requested records and documents faster.

"We had to take a new approach to records management and knew technology would play an important role in this process," said Del Dyck, general manager, Corporate Services for the City of St. Albert. "The Stellent system’s capabilities are user-friendly and cost-effective — allowing us to incorporate records and retention management into our daily work patterns and help achieve requirements for confidentiality, integrity and authenticity. The new system is expected to make a significant difference in how we do our work. Records that used to take hours to retrieve will now be at the fingertips of our employees in a matter of seconds."

The Stellent implementation at the City of St. Albert will roll out in several phases. The first phase will help the organization manage City Council- and City Manager-related records, including agendas and meeting minutes; annual reports; planning, budgetary and governance documents; policies and procedures; and citizen correspondence. Upon completion of the initial Stellent deployment, city staff will be able to more easily access thousands of records.

"We are pleased the City of St. Albert selected Stellent Universal Content Management to meet its records and retention management needs,” said Robert Olson, president and chief executive officer for Stellent. "Governments of all sizes are recognizing the importance and benefits of instituting formal records and retention management programs to address compliance, disaster recovery and e-government needs. We look forward to helping these organizations improve their enterprise-wide operations by continually delivering the industry’s most complete, unified records and retention management solutions."
