Times Leader, Northeast Pennsylvania's leading newspaper, has selected Clickability's content management platform to host Timesleader.com, Clickability announced today. The selection of Clickability cmPublish signals a renewed focus on online local news delivery at the award-winning, 127 year-old newspaper.

You log on and 30 seconds later your story is up and you're on to your next assignment. The news business is fun and exciting. You get the technical challenges out of the way and online publishing becomes part of the process. Times Leader will replace a legacy content management system supplied by former Times Leader owner Knight Ridder. "The newspaper industry is trying to manage print and online at the same time with the same people and that can be limiting. What's needed to make us online leaders are very easy tools that we don't have to worry about managing and that are simple, fast and powerful for the editors and writers," said Times Leader's recently-appointed Vice President of Audience and New Product Development Kathy Schwartz.

Under its new owners, Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company, said Schwartz, the Times Leader is reinvigorating its focus in their online strategies. Ms. Schwartz's first major project was to select a new platform which would provide the Times Leader the ability to innovate independently and on their timetable.

"After talking with Clickability's customers, I realized that we could use cmPublish to change things ourselves or even look across their customer base for inspiration and plug that in. It's exciting to be able to look at a site and finally say, 'hey, we can do that'," she added.

The Times Leader plans to use the integrated features that come with cmPublish including content management, ad serving, newsletters, blogs, integrated search and integrated analytics. In addition, Times Leader managers knew they needed something that would engage their content producers better than they have in the past. Tools such as the cmPublish Sidekick enable editors and reporters to analyze content and make updates on the fly while navigating their site.

"The cmPublish Sidekick is cool and it allows them to see the impact of their contribution on the website," said Schwartz. "You log on and 30 seconds later your story is up and you're on to your next assignment. The news business is fun and exciting. You get the technical challenges out of the way and online publishing becomes part of the process."

The Time Leader also needed a solution that was easy to manage. Clickability's cmPublish is a hosted solution, and the Times Leader site producers will not need technical resources on staff. Instead, using cmPublish's web-based tools, editorial and marketing staff can make changes to the website, such as adding a new advertisement on the fly. This ability addresses a key business issue stemming from the old system's limitation: problems delivering on commitments made to advertisers.
