Annual survey results announced today by AIIM Europe, the Enterprise Content Management association, reveal that 29% of UK organisations are now deploying and implementing enterprise-wide document and records management capabilities - nearly twice as many as indicated in the 2005 survey. A further 19% have begun integrating document and records management projects across departments, up from 13% last time. The international survey shows that UK adoption rates are now remarkably similar to those in the US.

AIIM also found a strong correlation between a company’s ability to handle electronic information well and perception of that company’s level of business success. The 16% of respondents who rate their organisation ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ in managing, controlling and using electronic information are twice as likely to consider their organisation more effective than the industry average in terms of overall profitability and effectiveness.

The benefits of electronic information handling are clearly understood. AIIM found that 46% of organisations plan to spend ‘more’ or ‘much more’ on document and records management technologies in 2007 compared to 2006, with only 13% planning to spend less. When asked to identify the most challenging aspect of document and records management in their organisation, 28% cited justifying the investment and gaining board commitment, whilst 27% considered change management to be the tougher aspect.

AIIM will address these issues at this year’s AIIM Roadshow, which visits five UK cities from April 30th to May 4th 2007. With this year’s educational theme "Tame Your Information Beast” in mind, industry experts will deliver information and advice throughout the week. Over 35 suppliers will demonstrate content, email and records management software along with document scanning and forms recognition systems. Registration for this free event is at: www.aiimroadshow.org.uk or call 01905 727600.

The annual AIIM survey researches the state of the market as indicated by responses from AIIM end-user members in Europe and North America.

The 2007 AIIM Roadshow will visit: Edinburgh: April 30th, Manchester: May 1st, Birmingham: May 2nd, Reading: May 3rd and London: May 4th.
