GT Software Released Version 3.3 of its Ivory Service Architect
Large Organizations Preserve the Power of Batch, Enabling High-Performance Integration with Web Services
GT Software, Inc. announced Ivory Service Architect version 3.3, which enables batch systems to leverage CICS, IMS, and Web services. Ivory Service Architect is an integrated toolset that uniquely enables corporations to rapidly assemble Web services from mainframe assets, as well as enabling mainframe applications to easily consume externally defined Web services.
Ivory Service Architect consists of Ivory Studio, a graphical modeling environment; Ivory Server, a high performance SOAP processor with runtime service orchestration; and the new Ivory Server for Batch. Ivory Service Architect 3.3 also adds comprehensive support of XML standards, the ability to import and leverage XSD schemas, and expanded support for IMS.
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, a leading health plan company serving the Mid-Atlantic region, is leveraging the new Ivory Server for Batch with the batch side of their claims processing system. Clay House, enterprise architect for CareFirst, says, "Our mainframe applications remain a key client and server within our SOA architecture. As we create services, we must be able to leverage those across both the on-line and batch environments or we start to compromise the SOA roadmap. Since it is not feasible to eliminate or fully restructure the batch programs, we must be able to consume services from those programs meeting very high service level agreements for performance and reliability. The new Ivory Server for Batch is helping us to meet this requirement."
With Ivory Service Architect, developers can quickly and easily assemble and publish Web services, developing right-sized composite services from existing mainframe assets with little or no training or consulting. The solution then provides a high-performance runtime engine for executing the deployed services within CICS, zOS, or Windows-based environments. Services can be composed using of any combination of CICS, IMS, mainframe data, as well as external Web services.
"People don't tend to consider batch applications when they are thinking about Web services and SOA," according to Gartner analyst Dale Vecchio. "Batch processing remains mission-critical for insurance, healthcare and financial services organizations, so enabling batch applications to easily integrate with external Web services without sacrificing performance is a capability that is going to be required in order to conduct day-to-day business."
