The old-fashioned electricity bill is a thing of the past: Business customers of the east German energy provider, envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG (enviaM), can now view their ongoing electricity costs and energy usage via the eXtraNET portal. The SAP NetWeaver® platform-based business-customer portal was developed by the Halle-based GISA GmbH in conjunction with Pironet NDH AG. The latter’s content-management system, pirobase ECS, complements the SAP NetWeaver Portal component with high-performance editorial and workflow tools. The web design was carried out by nexum AG, a subsidiary company of Pironet NDH.

Provides Integration with SAP® solution-based Environments
pirobase ECS was developed with the specific aim of integrating content-management functionalities with SAP NetWeaver. The user concept that was developed by nexum AG on this basis enables the energy provider to select a different design to the standard SAP NetWeaver Portal design and to tailor the user-interface to the requirements of future users. This made it possible for enviaM to integrate the eXtraNET for business customers into the existing IT landscape in its entirety, with no reduction in user-friendliness.

The interfaces were put together from a combination of the Web Dynpro development environment and pirobase ECS page elements. For its contribution to the development process, GISA GmbH employed the develoment infrastructure of SAP NetWeaver.

"Enterprise Service technology makes the rapid integration of company data possible, while implementing in full the service-oriented IT strategy of enviaM,” said Olaf Reiss, IT Manager at enviaM.

"The decisive factor in favor of pirobase ECS was the fact that it enables our authors to handle both content and the technical functions of the SAP NetWeaver portal without any knowledge of programming,” explains Patrick Frenkel, Project Manager at enviaM. "Both software modules and the invoicing model can be easily integrated. This enables us to adapt our portal swiftly to customer requirements and implement new service ideas in no time at all.”

"Our aim is to use the ongoing expansion of our SAP NetWeaver portal to communicate more directly and more often with our customers, offering them a range of new, energy-related services,” outlines Patrick Frenkel.
