The Yale School of Medicine (YSM) has chosen SDL Tridion Web content management software to improve the look, speed and functionality of its more than 300 websites and to reduce future Web building costs.

The move to a new content management system is part of YSM’s larger, school-wide Web restructuring project that was launched in 2006. The goal is to create a consistent "brand” identity for all the school’s sites so that common information can be shared more easily.

YSM Web administrators chose SDL Tridion R5 Web Content Management software over more than a dozen content management products on the market.

Erik Aeyelts Averink, president, SDL Tridion, said that R5’s BluePrinting technology will ensure that the school’s new branding initiative remains consistent across department sites and outlets.

The R5 software is expected to be installed and fully operational by fall 2009. Meanwhile, Web managers are working to "template” content so it will have a common look and information can be shared easily. Roughly 30 of the YSM’s hundreds of websites have switched to the new design, with many more currently in transition. Web managers also hope to add some innovative functionality, such as RSS feeds, email newsletters, mobile phone functionality, and rapid foreign-language translations of medical information.
