e-Spirit Extends FirstSpirit 4.2 with New Release Version
 With "FirstSpirit Version 4.2 Release 2" (4.2R2), e-Spirit announces a new version of its content management system. It offers numerous new functions and upgrades for editors, template developers, and administrators working in the previously released 4.2 minor version series. One of the highlights here is the support for Internet Explorer in the integrated preview of the FirstSpirit JavaClient. The update from 4.2 to 4.2R2 can be easily carried out without the hassle of project migrations. Overview of new features with FirstSpirit 4.2R2: Microsoft Internet Explorer for the integrated preview Now Internet Explorer can also be run on Windows systems alongside Mozilla Firefox for the preview function in the FirstSpirit JavaClient. Editors can switch between the two browsers at their leisure to see how a web page is displayed in the two systems. Addition of Dutch language Now the FirstSpirit applications JavaClient, WebClient, server and project configuration, and server monitoring are also available in Dutch (along with German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian). The language setting for the context menus, labels, and dialog boxes can be selected from the home page. Full-text search in FirstSpirit online documentation and Access API 4.2R2 offers a full-text search feature, which can also be used to search online documentation and the FirstSpirit Access API. Search results can be filtered by target groups (administrators, users, developers) and hits for developers can be filtered by topic. Using FirstSpirit on Mac OS X With 4.2R2, e-Spirit implements important features and optimizations for the planned release of the FirstSpirit application on Mac OS X in future versions. The look & feel of the JavaClient and the application for the server and project configuration have been adapted to blend in with the familiar Mac menus. Instead of the previous Windows shortcut keys, now the "Apple" key can be used for customary shortcuts in the Mac OS. In addition, the integrated preview in Mac OS has been updated for 64-bit compatibility. Filtering, search, and limiting of displayed data records To simplify work for editors who have to manage large quantities of data records, release 2 introduces a limiting and filtering option for displaying results. Background: e-Spirit's new release management procedure As of this release version, e-Spirit is making a few changes to its release management procedure: Rather than the usual "build versions" that were used up to FirstSpirit version 4.1, which included error corrections along with smaller new functions, e-Spirit will now as of version 4.2 make a clear distinction between two software version types within a minor version series. Bug fix versions will only contain error corrections, while release versions will additionally include various new functionalities. The reason for the introduction of release versions is that this will allow e-Spirit to also introduce new features at specific times within minor version series while still ensuring software stability. 23.03.2010, Sandra Högemann
