The Goethe-Institut now relies on the Content Management System by CONTENS for the administration of its online offers. In addition to the CMS solution, the social network component CONTENS relate is also employed. Some 600 websites and 700.000 HTML pages will be migrated to CONTENS in a large-scale project.

Following a multi-stage selection process, the Goethe-Institut (www.goethe.de) opted for the Content Management System CONTENS. In the course of the evaluation process, the Goethe-Institut CMS project team and IT experts analyzed 10 Content Management Systems from a group of originally over 100 identified CMS solutions.

CONTENS soon emerged as best qualified for the planned enterprise at Goethe-Institut. "CONTENS easily provided many of the required functions right from the outset", says Klaus Brehm, internet manager at the Goethe-Institut. "These not only include a user-friendly interface that enables content to be edited in a website view, but also high-performance generation of static and dynamic web pages."

Owing to the Goethe-Institut’s comprehensive, multi-language online offer, it is especially important from a conceptual perspective to combine different web-site clients and individual authorization concepts with a user-friendly administration of country and language versions in a single installation. Additionally required features and enhancements are easily implemented in CONTENS thanks, in part, to the underlying ColdFusion technology from Adobe.

Another advantage is the social software component CONTENS relate which can be seamlessly integrated in the CMS backend. In doing so, communication with users of the online offers shall be further developed and expanded. Considering the demands and requirements of the Goethe-Institut, CONTENS was able to win the bid owing to a clear overall concept for the administration of editorial and user-generated content.

Within the framework of the CONTENS migration, Goethe-Institut is planning further modernizations in online communication. This includes, for example, the update of its customer data framework as the basis for personalization functions as well as the implementation of a Google Search Appliance. The migration of the central website’s content shall be completed by the end of 2010; the entire project is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2011.
