Luton & Bedfordshire Consortium Construct UK’s First Public Community County Portal with Hyperwave
Redeveloping its existing intranet and extranet systems, the Consortium has implemented the eKnowledge Suite, eKnowledge Portal, eLearning Suite, Team Workspace and Workflow options across the various councils to provide a complete solution that will form the basis for delivering its commitments on e-Government. The portal will be rolled out to all staff and councillors initially, with the aim of expanding functionality to citizens as a personalised transaction portal. Members of the local community will soon be able to visit a single website to gain access to any of the five councils: Bedford Borough Council, Luton Borough Council, Bedford County Council, South Beds Council and Mid Beds Council via the portal. The portal will act as a ‘government gateway’, providing each Consortium member with a secure area to publish and manage all internal documents, members’ information and administration, as well as general communications between citizens, partners and staff across the five councils. Peter Churchwood, Programme Director for Luton and Bedfordshire Consortium said, “We needed to find a complete e-government solution which would allow each Consortium member to maintain ownership and control of local services and information. Working with Hyperwave, we have finally achieved the holistic solution we envisaged – one that includes a portal, intranet, back office integration and a managed e-learning environment for our staff.” Hyperwave’s collaborative knowledge management product suite of applications includes content and document management, search and retrieval, workflow, collaboration and e-learning modules. The portal component gives a single personalised point of access to all information for all employees, members and citizens. Terry Jordan, general manager, Hyperwave UK said, “Hyperwave has continued to prove its commitment to developing strong e-government solutions. The Luton and Bedfordshire Consortium will reap the benefits of a collaborative knowledge management system within three months and the eventual time, cost and service benefit’s will, in turn, be passed onto constituents and members of the local community.” 30.01.2004, Hyperwave AG
