Using the Imperia content management platform, the Swiss Federal Office for Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunications (BIT) has already completed over 20 internet and intranet relaunches and new web presences for departments of the Swiss Federal Administration. More are planned for 2004.

The Swiss Federal Office for Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunications (BIT) in Bern is responsible for the major part of the Swiss Federal Administration’s technical infrastructure and carries out many internet and intranet projects for the various governmental departments. Following five successful projects involving the migration from Imperia 5 to Imperia 6, a further 15 new launches and relaunches have been completed using Imperia. Further projects for internet, intranet and extranet are planned for 2004.

The content and editing of the currently independently run internet and intranet presences of each department makes high demands on the content management system due to the heterogeneous nature of the sites. Imperia’s high flexibility enables individual solutions to be created using standard modules and completed in short project times.

Multi-lingual capability has and will be central to all past and future projects. Most sites use Italian and English as well as German and French. In new projects, a link will also be required for document management systems as well as the intranet system “Intramo” developed by the company Seitenbau GmbH in Constance.

BIT has incorporated various databases into the completed Imperia projects and further complex system communication links are planned for 2004.

In the 3 years of Imperia cooperation with Seitenbau GmbH, standardized practices have been established and developed. This enables both the fast and cost effective completion of projects while maintaining individual design and structuring capabilities.
Imperia, along with another system, has been declared as the standard content management system for the Swiss Federal Administration. Imperia is being used in five of its seven departments.
