Pironet NDH and IBM Deutschland GmbH would like to extend their cooperative relationship in connection with the METRO Group Future Store Initiative and work together closely in the future on the conception and realization of innovative retail on demand solutions. Both companies want to bundle their competencies in the retail sector with other IBM business partners in Canada and the USA and intensively speed up modernization in the industry. The goal is the development of integrated technologies and effective running processes with which retail and the consumer goods industry may react faster, more flexibly and specifically to the demands of the market along the entire added-value chain. Consumers benefit from a new and improved level of information and service quality in connection with the products and sales promotions in stores.

Within the IBM Store Integration Framework, pirobase, from Pironet NDH, provides a software platform based on IBM WebSphere for the management of all information and peripheral devices. Pironet NDH is the only European company in the small circle of business partners involved in the ongoing initial phase of retail on demand development. Pironet NDH and IBM have already gained common experience and joint results from their participation in the Future Store initiative. Within the framework of the globally well-known pilot project last year, the METRO Group revealed a completely new kind of consumer market of the future, in which new technologies could be tested and uniform, international standards developed.

At the Future Store, pirobase brings together structured and unstructured content in realtime from the most various sources, and provides the most modern peripheral devices with context-related content in a customer- and demand-oriented manner - truly on demand. This includes, e.g., product information and advertising on multimedia adscreens, IBM kiosk terminals and intelligent scales, as well as prices and master data for IBM employee cash register systems. MCRL AG, an international retail specialist and subsidiary of Pironet NDH, with offices in Cologne and London, also provides software solutions for mobile and stationary devices.

In connection with future collaboration, Pironet NDH will continue to push for the compatibility of their software with IBM technologies. For more information about retail on demand and pioneering examples of in-store flexibility, visit Pironet NDH at CeBIT in hall 3, stand E18 or the main IBM stand in hall 1, stand 4g2/5d2, demo point 17.
