Virage, Inc., a wholly owned division of Autonomy Corp. (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.) and a leading provider of rich media communication and content management software, today announced that the University Center Rochester (UCR) is using the Virage VS Webcasting software to provide a variety of streaming video services, including Webcasting and content management capabilities, to the Rochester Community and Technical College, the University of Minnesota Rochester, and Winona State University. The service is offered through the University Center Rochester's Digital Media Center.
"UCR was chartered with a very important task of supporting three different institutions, and with this, comes three different unique sets of needs," said Chris Dobbins, operations manager with University Center Rochester's Information Technology Group. "We created the new Digital Media Center to meet the differing needs head-on and selected vendors that would accommodate virtually any request. Virage's technology is a perfect example designating Virage as the base platform for streaming video with indexing and archiving capabilities that enables the schools to create and tailor their Webcast content to fit their specific needs. While there is a very different look and feel for each Webcast, they all share the same platform and can be viewed by other education institutions live or on-demand, allowing us to extend our reach to a variety of audiences."
The UCR project was funded by the Minnesota Legislature to provide Web-based video and rich media content management capabilities to the schools to help them better reach their campus audience, as well as other educational institutions. The Digital Media Center houses the latest audio and video production and interactive television technologies. Through a Gigabit Ethernet network, Rochester Community College, the University of Minnesota, and Winona State University campuses are connected to the Digital Media Center and utilize Virage's VS Webcasting software capabilities to Webcast educational conferences, classroom and special guest lectures, faculty meetings, and create online libraries. End-users, such as students, faculty and the general public, access the Webcast from their desktops and watch the Webcast in its entirety or search for specific content by keywords or topics.
VS Webcasting is the first enterprise software solution that simplifies and streamlines the entire workflow for producing live Webcast events and on-demand or rebroadcast presentations for large audiences. An alternative to legacy satellite-based systems or expensive Webcasting service providers, the VS Webcasting solution makes it easy for organizations to deliver high-quality video- and audio-based presentations. From event scheduling and preparation to real-time Webcast operations to detailed event reporting, this solution provides powerful Web-based tools that make it easy to assemble and manage interactive Webcasts. VS Webcasting combines streaming audio and video with slides, digital documents, software demonstrations, Web pages and other online media.
