Boston, April 5, 2004 -- PaperThin, Inc., a leading mid-market content management software vendor, today announced the availability of CommonSpot Content Server version 4.0, the company’s flagship Web content management solution. This major release introduces new scalability options, added developer and administrator capabilities, and expanded content creation features. Dozens of enhancements to existing features are also introduced in this release.

Version 4.0 builds on an already rich feature set, which includes 50+ pre-built standard elements. New scalability options in version 4.0 include enhancements to the replication feature and a static content generation module. By separating the process for handling dynamic and static content, a more scalable, reliable and higher performance site can be realized. This new feature also enables easier incorporation of third party applications, providing support for a broader range of technologies. “Mentor Graphics initially chose CommonSpot because it allowed us to solve some pretty complex navigational challenges associated with managing over 450 products - something no other content management product could solve. In version 4.0, the ability to invoke ASP or JSP modules right within a CommonSpot page allows us to leverage the content management framework to preserve a consistent look and feel for the site and incorporate external applications at the same time,” noted Ron Fuller, Web Manager for Mentor Graphics.

Increasingly, organizations are looking to more efficiently re-purpose content on their site, and eliminate redundant content entry. Enhancements to CommonSpot’s custom metadata and custom element features introduced in version 4.0 allow for even more flexible content re-use. “The ability to bind custom metadata to forms, pages, subsites, uploaded documents and other content allows us to build a richer authoring environment that would otherwise have required complex customization,” Fuller added. Similarly, a new query-by-example feature allows users to find information they are looking for on a site quickly and easily.

The majority of new functionality and enhancements introduced in this release were driven by specific customer requests. “We’ve been using CommonSpot for five years now. What has made the difference for us is how well the company listens to its customers. We asked for several enhancements to the simple form and datasheet features – and we’re delighted to see these rolled out in version 4.0,” said Matt Linxwiler, National Cotton Council Webmaster.

For content contributors, new 4.0 features like comprehensive spell check, visual difference and pop-up calendars help authors create and publish content more accurately. New administrator tools include the ability to easily customize the page creation interface, the ability to restrict the type and size of files that can be uploaded by contributors, the ability to copy subsite parameters, and support for international date formats. PaperThin president Todd Peters added, “The introduction of the new features and enhancements in this release further reinforces our goal to deliver an affordable, scalable solution that empowers non-technical staff to create and publish content.”

CommonSpot powers Internet, intranet and extranet sites worldwide for organizations of all sizes, including the AFL-CIO, Biogen, Bell & Howell, The Gillette Company, Kent State University, Mayo Clinic and Northrop Grumman/TRW. CommonSpot Content Server has received awards for three years running in the ColdFusionÒ Developer’s Journal Reader’s Choice Awards, and has been twice recognized for Good Value among leading content management vendors by industry analysts at CMS Watch.
