Open Text Releases Integrated Web Content Management Solution, First Step in Product Roadmap

Open Text Corporation provider of Livelink, a collaboration and content management software for the global enterprise, said it is launching the industry's broadest Web Content Management offering, along with IXOS Software and Gauss Interprise, to give customers a single platform to manage corporate websites, intranets and extranets. The solution, set for release in May, is integrated with Livelink, so customers can include Web content in their complete Enterprise Content Management (ECM) strategy to reduce costs, improve processes and better meet requirements for regulatory compliance.
Livelink Web Content Management Server is the first milestone in the company's technology roadmap unveiled last month following acquisition agreements with IXOS Software and Gauss Interprise. The solution combines Web Content Management products from IXOS and Gauss to provide a full range of features, from out-of-the-box Web publishing to state-of-the-art, Java-based solutions customers can deploy for more sophisticated Web development requirements. Integration with Livelink brings Web Content Management together with team collaboration, document management, records management, process workflows and other ECM capabilities. This Fall, Open Text will roll out additional elements of its product roadmap, including an integrated solution for managing, tracking and storing e-mail, and content archiving for Livelink to give customers greater flexibility in their choice of storage solutions.
"There's no such thing as 'one-size-fits-all' Web Content Management," said Anik Ganguly, Executive Vice President of Products at Open Text. "Large organizations today are publishing many sites for many different users. Beyond the corporate website, for example, an auto manufacturer might maintain an extranet for suppliers. A pharmaceutical company might have a site that provides new drug documentation for regulators. We're offering all the tools customers need with a suite of solutions from a single source, so that they can make better use of the Web to communicate with their customers, partners, suppliers and employees, or even create personalized sites for smaller groups."
Livelink Web Content Management Server helps customers reduce costs and cycle times by making it easy to share and reuse content across the enterprise. Customers can manage the complete Web Content Management lifecycle, from content creation to expiration, through a single solution, with uniform process workflows and site templates. Content can be shared between sites and managed within Livelink. Users access a single master copy of content and avoid duplication and version chaos, which can give rise to significant legal risks for companies in regulated industries. Livelink Web Content Management Server is also the first solution in the industry to offer full archive integration, so customers can track Web content that is subject to audit review or that must be reproduced after it has been removed from a public site.
The solution offers easy-to-use content authoring capabilities for websites requiring the support of many contributors who may not be experts in HTML. For more advanced requirements, Livelink Web Content Management Server offers robust, Java-based tools in a customizable content development environment that gives Web application developers the freedom to architect innovative, cost-effective Web solutions.
Offered on a distributed architecture, Livelink Web Content Management Server can scale globally with or without an application server, and also offers tight integration with leading enterprise application servers, such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic and Oracle 9i. Livelink Web Content Management Server is entirely standards based, so content can be delivered across disparate platforms, Web applications, and browsing devices in multiple applications. A robust "plug-in" infrastructure supports content integration with standard back office ERP applications.
Open Text, IXOS and Gauss will also continue to support Web Content Management solutions offered to customers today, including Gauss VIP ContentManager, IXOS Suite for Content Management (formerly IXOS-Obtree C4), and Livelink for Web Publishing. Customers of each of these offerings can choose to upgrade to Livelink Web Content Management Server.
Open Text is introducing the solution to customers this week at Open Text's LinkUp Europe 2004, a series of European user conferences in London, Paris and Munich.
