Manitowoc Implements Documentum Enterprise Content Management Platform

Documentum, provider of enterprise content management and a division of EMC Corporation , announced that The Manitowoc Company (NYSE: MTW), a multi-industry capital goods manufacturer with market-leading products in the crane, foodservice and marine industries, has implemented the Documentum Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform. With more than 7,000 employees among 28 global locations, Manitowoc deployed Documentum to provide a comprehensive solution for achieving consistent corporate branding across all communication channels and to enable non-technical contributors to create and deliver fresh, relevant content to customers, employees, partners and suppliers. Manitowoc worked with Documentum Alliance partner BRT, Inc. to implement the solution.
Manitowoc's three primary business segments -- crane, foodservice and marine groups -- manufacture diverse products and operate in a broad range of global industries, yet they share similar requirements for managing content. For example, before deploying Documentum, Manitowoc faced a challenge of ensuring content on its web sites was current and accurate. The company's numerous web sites were each independently developed and maintained by technical staff using systems that provided light versioning and workflow capabilities. The technical teams spent a great deal of time updating content, bottlenecks, content duplication and operational inefficiencies occurred.
Documentum's easy-to-use content creation and publishing tools with XML-based templates, versioning and other controls enable Manitowoc's non-technical employees to make rapid changes and updates, enforce web site consistency for brand integrity and increase the value of its content assets. Freeing the company's web team from routine maintenance tasks enables them to focus on site design, functionality and the technical aspects of managing worldwide sites. Using the Documentum ECM platform, Manitowoc has automated processes for creating, managing, publishing and archiving web content in multiple languages and locales with an internationalized platform that is localized for seven languages. It supports the publishing and reuse of all content types, including documents, Web content, XML and rich media such as audio, video and images. Manitowoc has also deployed Documentum eRoom, the company's enterprise collaboration solution, for its IT teams to accelerate project completion, and expects to extend its use of Documentum eRoom to enhance collaboration with customers and suppliers.
"Documentum is the one vendor that provides truly enterprise-wide content management," said Steve Servais, director of web services at Manitowoc. "We're building a strong foundation with the Documentum ECM platform to handle our web content, then expanding with Documentum to comprehensively manage our enterprise documents and collaboration. We simply could not do all of this with any other vendor."
"We're pleased that The Manitowoc Company has implemented the Documentum platform," said Dave DeWalt, president of the Documentum division of EMC. "Like many Documentum customers, Manitowoc has standardized on Documentum across its global infrastructure and plans to expand use of Documentum products over time. This growing trend reflects the widespread need for a comprehensive content management platform that supports multiple languages, which only Documentum can offer."
