Ektron Inc., introduced significant enhancements to its browser-based authoring tool, eWebEditPro+XML. eWebEditPro+XML Version 4.1 enhanced features include new data field types, mathematic functions and advanced validation options for designing “smart” forms for XML, making it a powerful tool for creating structured XML content in Web-based applications.
The tool integrates with content management solutions, CRM and other applications, reporting systems and documentation repositories to use share and extend data across Web sites, applications and other organizations.
Ektron eWebEditPro+XML allows anyone, regardless of technical skill, to design XML data. Business users can define elements and data types, with richly formatted display for both data design and data entry in XML “smart” forms. eWebEditPro+XML integrates with Web-based applications and enables users to create forms that capture and validate data based on specific criteria. The editor supports calculated fields to deliver spreadsheet-like calculation abilities (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in online forms.
Examples of the forms created with eWebEditPro+XML include HR-oriented forms, such as intranet-based expense reports, requests for purchase and employee self-evaluations; healthcare forms such as patient records; product catalogs, parts requisitions forms and more.
“As an industry leader in Web authoring tools, we are giving our customers the ability to create information once, then deliver it to multiple channels with ease – whether it’s integrating with business applications or publishing it to Web sites, wireless devices, or a CD-ROM,” said Bill Rogers, CEO, Ektron, Inc. “Developers can customize online forms by defining the user interface and controlling the format in which information is captured. These editors help inspire both users and developers to come up with new and innovative approaches for creating Web-based information.”
Version 4.1’s new data field types, math functionality, and enhanced real-time validation capabilities allow organizations to create XML with higher levels of integrity and consistency for data and business processes. The XML editor can now, at the form creator’s choice, prevent data from being submitted and saved if validation requirements are not met. Users are notified (via a customizable dialog box) if any information they are trying to submit is not valid. The validation capabilities ensure the accuracy and consistency of data and documents.
eWebEditPro+XML’s “data design” mode offers a graphical, drag-and-drop method to create XML forms that can be deployed to internal business users on a Web site or intranet. Developers and business users can more rapidly build and deploy forms and enable their organizations to capture, present and extend data in a flexible way.
