gekko uses ENID to tailor new online image for the German Ministry of Justice

Recently the German Ministry of Justice rebranded itself under www.bmj.de with a fresh and technically up-to-date image. The reason for this relaunch were rising requirements for service and quality, as well as the demand to eliminate access barriers. The project also focused on decreasing operation and administration costs.
The new online content offers a plenitude of up-to-date information on legislation procedures, press releases and legal texts, as well as background information on the history and organisation of the Ministry of Justice.
The basis of the new internet image represents the ENID Web Content Management Suite of the producer Pyromedia GmbH in Niederkassel, Germany. The system wins over through its scope of services, management and operation costs, and therefore stood up to numerous competitors.
ENID is replacing the individually developed software system, which was used up until now. The introduction of ENID clearly reduced the costs for operation and content maintenance.
The Society for Communication and Cooperation (gekko) mbH with offices in Sankt Augustin and Berlin was instructed to realise this project. Gekko completed the design of the internet presentation and the integration of the ENID Content Management Suite in less than 40 days.
The content was developed according to the guidelines of the Regulation of Barrier-free Information Technology (BITV). Therefore, persons with physical disabilities, especially visual impairment, can also use it.
Furthermore, the German Ministry of Justice has published the first internet content of the Federal Government, which corresponds to the XHTML standard of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The content is provided in a format, which can be recognised by every current browser and by software systems with XML interfaces. One of the latest services based on this feature is the provision of up-to-date press releases in RSS format, which can be used by other internet portals and for example mobile end devices.
3 editors of the Ministry of Justice are responsible for the updating of the website, which registers approximately one million visitors per month. Rising visitor numbers after the relaunch show that the investment in this new technology and the improved design of the content were profitable for both, users and provider. 05.05.2004, Stefan von Lieven
