Winterthur Europe Assurance Increases Efficiency With FileNet Enterprise Content Management

FileNet Corporation, provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, today announced that Winterthur Europe Assurance, one of Europe's leading insurance companies, is implementing an enterprise-wide Content Management and Business Process Management (BPM) system built on FileNet's P8 architecture. The initial implementation began in the fourth quarter of 2003 and is designed to improve organizational productivity, customer responsiveness and customer satisfaction by unifying customer information, content and related business processes onto a single integrated ECM platform.

A FileNet customer since 2001, Winterthur Europe Assurance contracted with FileNet to expand the capabilities of its existing system. The new FileNet P8 implementation unifies disparate systems and legacy applications within Winterthur and manages critical work processes associated with claims processing, legal assurance and overall customer service. Key components of the overall enterprise architecture include mainframe legacy applications, J2EE middleware, Cincom Print fulfillment and FileNet P8. The FileNet system, which includes FileNet Image Manager, Content Manager and Business Process Manager, provides access to information on customer contacts, captures incoming content, such as mail, email, fax, and html, keeps track of work, workloads and status, automates manual tasks, and optimizes critical business processes.

Winterthur Europe Assurance expects to derive significant benefit from FileNet's Enterprise Process Management solution. By decreasing the time spent on manual administrative tasks and creating a uniform approach across all systems, Winterthur believes it can strengthen its competitive position, and better optimize not only its internal processes, but also its employees' activities and customer satisfaction. Pilot implementations of FileNet's technology have allowed Winterthur to sustain rapid growth in workload while controlling costs.

"We are very excited about deploying FileNet P8," said Alain de Frenne, CIO at Winterthur Europe Assurance. "The initial pilot implementations of this solution indicate that FileNet's BPM and Content Management technology will create real competitive advantage for our company by better controlling costs and improving our customer responsiveness."

Today, a legal case can last for several months or even longer, and no one person working on the case easily knows the exact detailed status because pertinent information is manually entered into a number of separate systems. The enhancements put in place by FileNet's solution will enable Winterthur to consolidate claims applications and files by automating the existing processes and the management reporting procedures.
