Globalization Management Systems (GMS) provider Idiom(R) Technologies, Inc., expanded the WorldServer(TM) product family with the introduction of a new, application-specific version of WorldServer designed to meet the unique needs of global electronic publishing organizations. WorldServer Global Electronic Publishing enables cross-functional teams including authors, reviewers, editors, translators, localization specialists, and publishers to automate large portions of the document lifecycle, and deliver content in any format or language -- more quickly, more easily, and more affordably.
"For large, multi-national enterprises, simultaneously delivering documentation around the globe in different print and digital formats can be extremely challenging," said Dave Rosenlund, Idiom vice president of marketing and business development. "WorldServer Global Electronic Publishing eliminates much of that complexity, by automating many manual and time-consuming tasks, and by unifying publishing processes and translation activities -- which substantially reduces the cost and effort required to publish globally."
WorldServer Global Electronic Publishing helps businesses improve economies of scale by automating many of the manual tasks associated with electronic publishing, translation, and localization in a single, unified solution. With extensive version control features, an integrated XML repository, a powerful and extensible publishing framework, "preview in-context" capabilities, and state-of-the-art search & query functions, the new member of the WorldServer product family enables "continuous translation" of complex documents, shaving time and cost from the publishing process. The new Idiom solution supports a wide variety of digital publishing formats including HTML, PDF, CHM (complied help), as well as print. And it is designed to work with popular authoring tools, such as Adobe FrameMaker.
The Idiom WorldServer Global Electronic Publishing solution builds upon the most powerful components of the Idiom Globalization Management System (GMS), WorldServer, with new features that address the unique requirements of global electronic publishing, including:
* Integrated XML Repository improves data organization and reuse by structuring source content in XML and separating content from presentation. The repository can be used by organizations with existing document type definitions (DTDs) or those seeking to migrate to XML.
* Enhanced Version Control expands on the version control capabilities of the WorldServer content management system, making it easier for authors to maintain a complete history and audit trail of changing documents. Users can visually compare documents and easily "roll back" to previous versions. Seamless integration with leading enterprise content management solutions, such as those by Documentum, Interwoven, and Open Text, have also been extended and improved upon.
* Electronic Publishing Framework features user interface and pull-down menu options that provide authors with consistent, repeatable processes for executing complex, global publishing projects. Users can build large documents and preview content in multiple formats (including HTML and PDF) in a matter of seconds, while also leveraging the transparent management, translation, and publishing of changes via WorldServer.
* Advanced Search and Query Functions help authors work more productively with large volumes of content. These include full-text search capabilities with support for Boolean and wildcard searches, as well as XML-aware searches with XQuery.
