Public Record Office of Victoria, Australia Selects the Documentum Platform

Documentum, provider of enterprise content management and a division of EMC Corporation, announced that the Public Record Office of Victoria, Australia (PROV), has selected the Documentum ECM platform to develop and implement the digital records archive for the Victorian Government. PROV is responsible for issuing standards that regulate public records across all of Victoria's government agencies. The solution will provide all Victorian agencies with a secure platform for the access and management of digital records by integrating the Documentum platform with the EMC Centera content addressed storage solution.
PROV, the state of Victoria's archive authority, is responsible for managing all public records produced or held by the Victorian State Government since the establishment of permanent government services in Victoria in 1836. The agency issues standards for managing public records, identifies records worthy of preservation as archives of the state, and takes custody of those records when they are no longer required for current administrative purposes by the Victorian government, which encompasses more than 500 agencies.
Committed to providing direct access to records, PROV selected the Documentum ECM platform to manage its archives, photographs, audio and video, and government records with a single, unified solution. PROV will have seamless integration between Documentum and EMC Centera for accurate archiving, fast searching and rapid retrieval. The user interface will integrate record information from both the digital and physical collections, giving a holistic view of the archive.
"The challenge for PROV was not just finding a solution for the next year; it had to be a solution for the next 100 years. Our responsibility is to manage these records for their lifetime and to choose formats that are likely to be around or accessible in 100 years' time," said Howard Quenault, Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) Program Director at PROV. "We did a rigorous evaluation and the complete solution, EMC Centera as the archive storage component, Documentum as the core content repository and integration services by DMR Consulting, provided a best-of-breed solution with capabilities to address our needs for the effective management of digital records, disaster recovery, backups and the overall service in terms of support and maintenance."
The solution helps PROV to advise and assist agencies in achieving compliance with current and evolving standards and ensures that the archives are accessible to the government and people of Victoria.
"The Documentum -- EMC Centera solution provides a unified approach to managing, archiving and retrieving vast amounts of valuable content," said Dave DeWalt, president of the Documentum division of EMC. "Documentum's powerful workflow capabilities, security and metadata management will accelerate PROV's strategy to provide a comprehensive platform for managing its vast, diverse content. We look forward to a lasting relationship with the agency."
