Gist Selects Stellent Universal Content Management Software

Stellent, Ltd., the London-based subsidiary of Stellent, Inc., a global provider of content management software, announced the United Kingdom firm Gist is using Stellent technology to manage its company intranet. Gist, part of the BOC group, controls the movement of more than GBP 4.5 billion of merchandise to customers on an annual basis, including the food industry and fast-moving consumer goods.

Gist creates supply chain solutions for customers, including Marks & Spencer and British Airways, and recognised a company intranet would be an integral part of developing the business. The intranet needed to enable all staff to access information about the company and its customers quickly and efficiently to ensure improved, quality service for customers. The company wanted a dynamic, interactive, real-time intranet for managing and accessing customer information, product data, supplier information, safety policies and procedures, announcements and newsletters, staff benefits, online CBT training and rich media.

As part of the decision-making process, Gist attended workshops with existing Stellent users and viewed Stellent software in action. After meeting with a number of content management companies, Gist selected the Stellent technology, based upon positive industry analyst recommendations and feedback from a Gist customer pilot project, to power its intranet.

Andrew Caramba-Coker, senior IT project manager for Gist, said: "We found the Stellent software easy to use, and its ability to do conversion on-the-fly using native Microsoft Office tools was a definite plus. Stellent technology can be used by people with relatively limited IT skills; for example, a file created in Microsoft Word can migrate to a team-based collaborative environment and then be published to the intranet for the entire company to view."

Stellent worked with Gist to ensure the framework for the intranet was tailored to the needs of the company. Gist has seen benefits from using Stellent's software after just five months. These include significant improvements in internal and external communications, and increased sharing of information. "Due to the nature of a supply chain environment, Gist needs to invest a great amount of trust and responsibility in its staff," Caramba-Coker said. "The employees are the essence of Gist's success, and the intranet has ensured our staff can be more involved with the smooth running of the company. Additionally, everyone at Gist has really taken to Stellent's software. The content champions within the company claim Stellent has been a major contributor to the success of our intranet."

Gist is now considering expanding the ways Stellent software can be used by staff, such as putting intranet kiosks in staff rooms for employees to access company information. It is also looking to use Stellent to reinvigorate its public-facing Internet site and existing customer portals.

Bryan Richter, vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa operations for Stellent, said: "Stellent was able to offer Gist a software package entirely tailored to suit the needs of the company. We are working with Gist on an ongoing basis to update the software it is using to manage its intranet, as well as help them with requirements for future projects."
