Vignette Corp. announced that it has been listed in the leader quadrant in Gartner Inc.'s 2004 Magic Quadrant for the Smart Enterprise Suite (SES) market(1). According to Gartner, leaders exhibit strong market visibility in multiple geographies, consistent financial performance, well-integrated functionality, good customer support, and the most comprehensive and scalable products. In addition, leaders are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies in content management, collaboration and portals to sustain their leadership position in the market. This listing follows Vignette's positioning by Gartner in the leader quadrant of the 2004 Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portal Products(2).

The latest report, issued May 17, 2004, evaluated 22 vendors that offer components of Smart Enterprise Suite functionality. Gartner first identified the emergence of the SES category in May 2002. According to the report, "the SES market is still evolving, but has matured significantly in its second year."

"Vignette's position in the 2004 Gartner Magic Quadrant for the Smart Enterprise Suite is a powerful testament to our understanding of customer needs, industry vision and the integration of highly scalable, J2EE(TM)-based content management, portal and collaboration solutions into a cohesive Smart Enterprise Suite," said David Shirk, senior vice president of products, strategy and worldwide marketing at Vignette. "Vignette's actions over the past year, including the acquisition and integration of collaboration and document and record management leaders Intraspect Software and TOWER Technology, have uniquely positioned Vignette to set the pace for SES vision and leadership by demonstrating product innovation and delivering business efficiencies for many respected organizations worldwide across key verticals."

With a strong heritage in content management, Vignette has enhanced its position through organic development and recent acquisitions. Today Vignette offers a comprehensive suite of solutions for Compliance and Governance, Public Web Site and Brand Management, Employee Intranets, Customer Self-Service, Supplier and Channel Interaction, and Standardization and Consolidation that use its enterprise content management, portal, integration, document and records management and collaboration capabilities to deliver business efficiencies. Built purely upon a foundation of industry-standard, open technologies, Vignette(R) V7 products provide the most comprehensive suite of services to create, share, manage and present information to any user anywhere at any time.

"Approximately 18 months ago Vignette recognized the need for open, independent suites that help enable organizations to manage and deliver information while streamlining business processes. Vignette's ability to effectively address this expanding market need has prompted the entire industry to recognize the powerful role of combined portal, content management and collaboration technology in supporting business processes across organizations," Shirk said.
