Inmarsat Saves Space With Enterprise Vault

KVS, provider of content archiving solutions for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server environments, announced that Inmarsat, The Total Communications Network, has achieved significant cost and time savings within months of implementing Enterprise Vault, as well as moving much closer to their legal and technical teams compliance objectives.
Enterprise Vault is recognised as the markets most comprehensive corporate content archiving system that addresses the problems arising from the on-going proliferation of unstructured data including email. Enterprise Vault provides automatic, policy driven Mailbox and Public Folder archiving, PST import, and mandatory journaled mail retention, turning the email store into a reliable and dependable source of intelligence, delivering properly documented audit trails, in order to adhere to regulatory and corporate compliance guidelines, clear and permanent records of both current and historical information, as well as providing an efficient means for quickly identifying, searching, finding and retrieving communications on specifications, outputs or service level agreements etc., at the touch of a button.
"Previously, we were relying on a tape library which was not only slow and inefficient, but did not provide simple or safe traceability or disaster recovery capabilities. We were looking to move to an information lifecycle management (ILM) solution that would enable us to lessen the archiving task and take control of the management of the data in any situation," said Ramesh Varsani, LAN systems manager at Inmarsat. "Enterprise Vault takes us further than that," he continued. "Enterprise Vault enabled us to address the business issues associated with the retention of data in line with regulatory guidelines pertaining to corporate compliance that satisfied both our legal and IT teams' overall objectives. With Enterprise Vault we don't have to worry about email and content archiving issues as the solution takes care of the headache. If we need to search and retrieve email or content data we can efficiently bring up the information at the touch of a button which is invaluable to a company the size of Inmarsat, especially when taking into consideration the heightened importance of having to be able to audit and produce data for regulatory corporate compliance."
The solution was purchased and implemented in conjunction with NetApp Snapshot technology in two short months and is accepted as the company standard for email management. Utilising the policy driven archive capability of Enterprise Vault and the NetApp SnapMirror software, Inmarsats IT team were able to replicate only changed data to the business continuity-planning site at regular intervals and with minimal disruption to the users.
"Within six months, not only has ROI been achieved, but the consequential outage and administration times have been drastically cut down - to around a fifth - and a steady flow of positive feedback has been given to the IT team on the project," comments Andrew Barnes, Global marketing Director of KVS. "Remote access and the easy transfer of .pst files, along with the quick search facility, have proved to be the most popular features from Inmarsats user perspective." concluded Barnes. 02.06.2004, KVS
