Vignette Debuts Early Adopter Program for Partners and Customers

Vignette Corp. announced the initial availability of Vignette Application Builder 7.0, the company’s composite application solution that now leverages the Web Services for Remote Portals (WSRP) standard. Through this program, partners and customers have the opportunity to begin harnessing the powerful new features of this latest release, including remote portlet publishing technologies for distributed portals.
System integration partners and select customers are already taking advantage of Vignette Application Builder’s advanced features to develop packaged applications that integrate with the entire suite of Vignette® V7 application services. In addition, Vignette partners now have the opportunity to augment other portal vendors’ technologies by leveraging Vignette Application Builder’s WSRP production capabilities to deliver targeted solutions for specific business needs and vertical industries, regardless of the underlying architecture.
“In our business, the time it takes to develop and deploy an application has a huge impact on the ability to drive additional revenue while managing costs. Re-creating the wheel for each application is not only counter-intuitive, it’s costly,” said Barry Tallis, practice director at Rapidigm. “Vignette Application Builder 7.0 will allow us to take best-of-breed components from any number of existing applications and quickly provide a compelling solution to our customers with a great deal of flexibility, particularly when it comes to delivery. The adoption of the WSRP standard by Vignette Application Builder 7.0 allows customers to leverage the information delivery capabilities in the Vignette Application Portal, or any delivery solution a customer may have adopted.”
With full support for the production of WSRP, Vignette Application Builder now enables application designers to easily create robust federated portal applications that can be centrally deployed but consumed by multiple, distributed portals. Delivery of portal applications to other distributed and remote portal instances is a critical requirement for organizations that want to host internal applications for other business units to leverage in a separate portal deployment. In addition, remote delivery of portal applications between supplier and partner accelerates business by offering self-service access to relevant information required in day-to-day activities. By offering these constituencies self-service access to back-end data and applications, organizations can create a more efficient, transparent inventory and supply chain for their customers and partners. As a single destination for partner activities, these kinds of portal sites are the first step in delivering useful and compelling applications and data to partners.
Vignette Application Builder offers a virtually code-free graphical environment that greatly reduces the time required to create portlets and simplifies the creation and delivery of composite applications. An intuitive, user-friendly wizard empowers application designers to quickly build applications, minimizing the short- and long-term costs of developing and managing applications within an organization’s enterprise portal. In addition, reusable composite application components can easily be created in a code-free environment and “snap together” in various combinations to satisfy evolving business needs, reducing the time required to react to changing customer demands. Composite applications are an aggregation or a collection of individual components, each of which can be connected to a separate back-end data source and presented together in a single application context within a portal.
“Our customers are increasingly inquiring about composite applications, and the introduction of Vignette Application Builder helps organizations such as Xpediant Solutions meet this demand and deliver high-impact business applications at low cost and in a short time frame,” said Qusai Mahesri, managing director for Xpediant Solutions. “As WSRP becomes more prominent throughout an organization’s IT department, Vignette Application Builder 7.0 is nicely positioned to address the growing demand for solutions that simplify the production of standards-based composite applications.”
“We are committed to providing a standards-based, cohesive approach for not just the development, but also the remote delivery of applications that increase business efficiency,” said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of products, strategy and worldwide marketing at Vignette. “WSRP production is just the most recent proof point of Vignette’s direction. Vignette Application Builder leverages Vignette’s open suite of solutions and our customers’ existing heterogeneous environments to advance the delivery of portal, content management, document management and collaboration initiatives.”
Vignette’s modular line of portal, content management, document and records management, integration, and collaboration technologies tightly integrate to streamline business processes and provide greater business efficiency. Built on industry standards, including Java J2EE, JSR 168 and WSRP, Vignette’s technology also seamlessly fits in any computing environment and integrates with proprietary, repository-based applications such as those from Oracle, SAP AG, PeopleSoft Inc. and EMC Corp.
