BEA Systems, Inc., announced that it has been listed in the Leaders Quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Platform Suites. This is the first time in the company's history that BEA has been listed in the Leaders Quadrants of four, distinct Gartner Magic Quadrants for Application Platform Suites, Application Integration Suites, Horizontal Portal Products and Enterprise Application Server vendors. This placement in the Leaders Quadrants was based on BEA's completeness of vision and ability to execute in each of these categories, and marks the first time BEA's marquis products -- BEA WebLogic Platform(TM), BEA WebLogic Integration(TM), BEA WebLogic Portal(TM) and BEA WebLogic Server(TM) -- have all been listed in the Gartner Leaders Quadrants simultaneously.

"CIOs are investing in technology that can help them drive complexity out of their IT environments and move toward enabling a service-driven enterprise," said Rick Jackson, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, BEA Systems. "The BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform can help CIOs accomplish these goals. By helping to make core business processes more efficient, enable real-time access to corporate assets, and enhance IT departments' ability rapidly adapt to changes within the business, BEA can provide a unified platform that can reduce the cost and complexity of IT today."

"In recent years, we've observed that our customers are deploying an application platform suite as the foundation for building their Service-Oriented Architecture," continues Jackson. "BEA's goal is to enable customers to be more efficient, responsive and adaptable to ever-changing business needs. We consider our placement in the leaders quadrants as further confirmation of this approach, and it demonstrates the importance BEA places on working to ensure that our technologies achieve the high standards set by the industry today."

Gartner defines Application Platform Suites or (APS) as, "integrated assemblies of three fundamental runtime technologies:

* A runtime platform for reusable business software (components and services) -- typically, an enterprise application server

* A runtime platform for programmatic integration of business applications -- typically, an integration suite

* A runtime platform for multichannel user-facing business application software -- typically, a portal product."

Gartner continues: "In most cases, an APS product consists of more than just its three fundamental components. Development tools, systems management and security, dedicated database, multi-channel access, content management, Web services administration and other extensions -- all enhance the value of an APS, in part by enhancing the power of its component parts and, of particular importance, by enhancing the synergy between them."

Gartner's Magic Quadrants assess vendors' "completeness of vision" and "ability to execute." The research firm defines "Leaders" as vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.
