Municipality of Anchorage Streamlines Information Processes using Stellent UCM

Stellent, Inc. (Nasdaq: STEL), a global provider of content management solutions, announced today the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska’s largest municipality serving approximately 260,000 residents, has completed the first phase of its Stellent® Universal Content Management implementation, which ultimately will link together all of the organization’s Web sites, departments and agencies.
Currently, Stellent’s Web-based document management and workflow capabilities allow the Municipality to efficiently route and review the critical government information submitted to its assembly — similar to a city council — for final approval. Prior to implementing the Stellent system, legislators spent countless hours searching for materials to support the primary documents they needed to approve. Stellent helped the Municipality customize a workflow function to eliminate the bottlenecks this process caused.
“Our new workflows are extremely important to many of the Municipality’s departments, particularly finance, legal and planning, which often deal with numerous and complex supporting documents,” said Terry Daniels, chief technology officer for the Municipality of Anchorage. “By automating our information processes, Stellent has helped us eliminate the sharing of obsolete versions of content as well as reduced other bottlenecks, such as files awaiting approval from an employee on vacation. This streamlining has led to reduced printing and labor costs and increased productivity, as all information is now exchanged electronically and instantaneously.”
The Municipality graphically designs its workflows using Stellent’s Visio development interface. After completion, the content and documents created for the workflow are saved in the Stellent system in their native formats, enabling content authors to easily access them –– using a Web browser –– for viewing, modification or approval. The workflows help the Municipality — which previously misplaced 10 percent of its assembly documents annually — eliminate lost documents. The Municipality teamed with Applied Microsystems, Inc., a local Stellent partner, for the installation and initial design of the application. Applied Microsystems continues to provide front-line support for the Stellent product.

In the future, the Municipality intends to use Stellent Universal Content Management to publish assembly-approved information to an intranet, extranet and public Web site.
