Since more than 190 Mio. Europeans use the internet today, online advertising as well as paid content continue to prosper throughout Europe. However, most online publishers focus on their national markets and are not very familiar with other European markets. This lack of knowledge prevents successful business models from spreading among online publishers in Europe. Therefore, OPA Europe in cooperation with the VDZ (German Magazine Publishers Association), MECN (Media & Entertainment Consulting Network) and Kontakter (Media Magazine) decided to conduct the study „Online Publishing in Europe“.

This pan European survey was conducted among 17 leading European online publishers representing 37 websites. It provides an overview of the market for online advertising, paid content and other revenue streams. Furthermore, it outlines best-in-class business models throughout Europe, analyses national differences and possible reasons as well as success factors.
Julien Jacob, President of OPA Europe states: “Online publishing is a successful business. 65% of all major online publishers will have reached profitability this year.”

The study can be ordered as pdf download for 59 € (incl. VAT) at www.opa-europe.org.
